Chapter 89: The Feeling of Being Cared For Is Quite Nice
After returning to the office, Lin Luoyou couldn't help but feel that she'd left in far too much of a hurry. She resolved to check in at the café again after work, just to make sure.
Finally, the workday ended. Lin Luoyou clocked out and headed toward the café. But as she reached the entrance, she discovered the shop had closed early for the day.
Could it really be something serious?
Should I show a bit of concern?
She wrestled with the question for a while, then, thinking “We’re friends, after all, I should at least ask,” she dug out Qin Shishen’s contact information.
[Lin Luoyou: Hello, are you alright?]
As she waited for a reply, she paced back and forth in front of the café, gripping her phone tightly.
[Qin Shishen: Yes, I’m fine.]
[Lin Luoyou: Good to hear! I was passing by after work and wanted to check in, but saw you closed early today.]
[Lin Luoyou: If you’re still feeling unwell, I suggest ordering dinner delivery. Cooking with an open flame might not be safe.]
Knowing he was alright, Lin Luoyou finally felt at ease. After typing out her message, she slipped her phone back into her pocket and turned toward the bus stop.
What she didn’t know was that Qin Shishen, upon receiving her message, had drawn back a corner of the café’s upstairs curtain and was leaning against the wall, watching her leave.
He felt something soft and furry brush against his ankle. Looking down, he found Lovely had squeezed in front of the window too, as if watching Lin Luoyou’s departing figure.
“It feels rather nice, being cared about by someone,” Qin Shishen murmured.
“Meow,” Lovely echoed.
Hearing his owner speak, Cola, who was curled up on Qin Shishen’s desk, perked up and chimed in with two meows of her own.
“What are you two making such a fuss about?” Qin Shishen glanced at his cats, let the curtain fall, and returned to his bed, lying down.
Lovely slipped out from under the curtain and followed him step for step, leaping up to rest her head on his blanket.

Meanwhile, Lin Luoyou had just squeezed onto the bus when her phone rang. A glance revealed it was her father calling.
“Hello, Dad?”
Barely had her voice reached him when a robust baritone came through the line:
“Luoyou, have you had dinner yet?”
“I have! Ate very well!” Though she hadn’t eaten yet, Lin Luoyou lied without hesitation, immediately listing off several signature dishes from the employee cafeteria. She wasn’t sure if she’d tried them all, but their color and plating alone promised they’d be delicious.
“Oh, so is work keeping you busy?”
“It’s alright, still within my expectations…” As she spoke, Lin Luoyou sensed something was off. The more she thought about it, the more she felt her father was digging a hole for her.
She hadn’t told her family about finding a job yet.
“How did you know I was job hunting?” Lin Luoyou racked her brains.
Could it have been Lin Luming? Her first suspicion fell on her brother, but then she thought their revolutionary bond wasn’t so fragile.
Maybe Zhen Hao had reported her—but if it were him, her mother would probably be calling now.
With all options exhausted, Lin Luoyou suddenly pictured her trendy grandmother with a secret smile. She wondered:
Could it have been her?
