Hurry up?

Lin Luyao was momentarily taken aback. “Isn’t there still three weeks left...? I thought I’d take my time to think it over,” she said, poking at the bowl of millet porridge before her with her spoon, feeling a bit of a headache. “I’m busy all day long, but when I reflect at night, I feel like I didn’t accomplish much. It’s so frustrating...”

“You’ve just started at the company, you’re still a newbie. You’ll get used to it over time!” Jiang Xiaohan comforted her with the tone of someone who’d been through it all. “Hey, you’re getting off-topic! You can take your time with your thesis topic, but have you looked at your schedule? Your pre-sale starts this Friday. Are you sure you’ll have the time to mull over your thesis once things get hectic?”

Jiang Xiaohan’s reminder jolted Lin Luyao awake. She’d been thinking there was plenty of time, but had completely forgotten just how busy she’d be!

While Lin Luyao was still lost in her thoughts, Jiang Xiaohan seized the opportunity and snatched the last skewer from the table.

Satisfied after their meal, Jiang Xiaohan patted her round belly and declared, “That was just perfect.”

The next morning, the two of them woke up almost simultaneously, battling for the bathroom as if it were a war.

“Xiaohan, hurry up!” Lin Luyao, a step behind, had to wait outside, prompting her impatiently every so often.

“All right, all right, stop rushing me!”

Under Lin Luyao’s urging, Jiang Xiaohan didn't even bother to wipe the water droplets from her face before opening the door. Seeing it open, Lin Luyao, with her petite frame, slipped in sideways in a flash. If they had been two burly men, they would probably have gotten stuck in the doorway.

Since Jiang Xiaohan’s company didn’t provide free meals, the two parted ways downstairs. One headed to the cafeteria, the other made straight for the bus stop at the campus gate.

After breakfast, Lin Luyao was still the first to arrive at her workstation.

Tang Xiao, the second to arrive, seemed used to finding the young colleague already deep in study each morning.

Opening her laptop and checking emails, Tang Xiao explained, “Luyao, once work starts, come with me upstairs to find the colleagues in the data analysis department. When they send us the processed data, we can begin our analysis and draw conclusions.”

Suddenly, Tang Xiao slapped her forehead in frustration. “Oh no, I can’t believe I forgot about this... This is a mess.”

“Luyao, I remember you’re good with Excel, right? Perfect, there’s something urgent we need to finish quickly...” Tang Xiao spoke as she sent an Excel file via email.

The file contained only headers, no data.

Lin Luyao recognized the template; it was the one they’d used earlier for product ratings, including all sorts of information on product sales and inventory.

“Yesterday, we focused on which aspects to approach, which dimensions to include, but forgot to make the analysis template. This is the template we used for the standard product pool before, and it’s similar to what we need for the senior product pool now. We have to finish it this morning.”

Defining the dimensions of the product pool and making them into headers wasn’t all that difficult. They’d discussed it thoroughly yesterday; it was just a matter of copy and paste.

What mattered most was writing the calculation formulas into the spreadsheet. That way, once they copied in the raw data, the computer could directly calculate what they needed and automatically filter the results, streamlining their workflow.
