Chapter 038: Qin Shishen Becomes the Chauffeur
When the car sped past Lin Luyou, it startled her so much she almost jumped out of her skin.
Good heavens, do they think this park is a racetrack?
Driving that fast in the dead of night, with barely any lights around.
Lin Luyou shook her fists and kicked in the direction the car had disappeared, as if venting her frustration could somehow lessen the fright she’d just experienced.
But less than two minutes later, the same car returned. This time, the white car pulled up steadily beside her.
“It’s you again!”
Anyone would be annoyed when confronted with the person who’d just scared them half to death.
Qin Shishen was equally helpless under Lin Luyou’s questioning glare. He hadn’t expected to run into the same person twice while cruising around the park.
“Working late again tonight?” he asked.
If it weren’t for you dragging me off for that rabies vaccine, I wouldn’t be here so late, Lin Luyou grumbled inwardly.
But she kept that to herself and only managed a sheepish grin.
She glanced down at her phone. Strangely enough, she hadn’t been able to book a single ride tonight.
Could it be... do I really have to call Hanhan to pick me up?
Qin Shishen seemed to sense her predicament.
“Are you trying to get a ride? Any luck?”
“No... I actually got one, but the driver had other passengers. It was a carpool, so I canceled,” she replied.
“Good call,” Qin Shishen agreed. “It's not safe for a girl to carpool with strangers this late. Safety first.”
What now? Keep waiting, I guess.
Lin Luyou had no better plan.
“How about I drive you home?” Qin Shishen offered again.
“I... I’d better not,” Lin Luyou hesitated, tempted but still refusing.
“What, are you worried I’ll kidnap you?” Qin Shishen chuckled. “Which platform are you using to book a ride?”
She paused, then told him the name.
“Hold on,” Qin Shishen said, pulling his phone from the passenger seat. After fiddling with it for a minute or two, he looked up at her. “Try placing your order again. I promise you’ll get a ride this time.”
Skeptical but hopeful, Lin Luyou resubmitted her request. Sure enough, just as he’d said, someone accepted her order instantly.
“All right, hop in. I’ll take you home.”
Seeing that she was still confused, Qin Shishen handed her his phone with a smile. “Come on, this time I really am your driver.”
**
Even after Qin Shishen dropped her off at the school gate once more, Lin Luyou still hadn’t recovered from the whirlwind of events.
What a bizarre night. Scenes like this only happen in novels—what were the odds of experiencing them in real life?
“Thank you, really,” she said earnestly after transferring the fare and setting her phone aside. “Otherwise, I might have been waiting there all night.”
To Qin Shishen, it was nothing. Leaning back in his seat, right hand on his knee and left hand resting on the steering wheel, he replied, “If you can, try not to work so late in the future. The third section of the park is still under construction, and there are so many dump trucks going in and out at night. It’s not safe.”
In truth, it was because of him that she had to work overtime today. Otherwise, she would have only needed to catch up on half a day’s data and wouldn’t have had to sacrifice her evening.
Still, she nodded. After all, he wasn’t wrong.
