Chapter 076: The Sisters Take the Field

After much effort to steady her emotions, Lin Luyu finally voiced the question she’d kept bottled up inside. She simply said it was a school research project, omitting any mention that it was related to her work.

Everyone in the family believed that, after graduation, Lin Luyu’s best option was to follow in the footsteps of Jiang Xiaohan or Zhen Hao—find a position at a securities or fund company and settle down into steady employment. But Lin Luyu was unwilling to follow that path, especially as her fascination with internet and e-commerce companies grew ever stronger.

She thought she’d wait until she received her first paycheck, or successfully passed her probation, before bringing it up with her family.

When Sun Guifang heard that her granddaughter wanted to ask about “what factors people consider when shopping online,” she immediately became animated, and launched into a long explanation. She spoke at length about everything from material and craftsmanship to price and practicality.

As her grandmother spoke, Lin Luyu jotted notes quickly in her notebook.

In the end, her grandmother seemed not quite finished. “Sweetheart, wait a moment! The friends I’ve made dancing these days are even more skilled at shopping online than I am. I’ll ask them for you!”

Before Lin Luyu could refuse, she heard Sun Guifang, on the other end of the phone, apparently jogging back to the square dance site, calling everyone to pause and turning off the music. Then a chorus of elderly voices chimed in, discussing their shopping habits.

As she listened, Lin Luyu realized that aside from purchasing a few necessities, most of their energy was spent deciding what to buy for their children and grandchildren. When it came to intelligence games for little ones or essential items for working adults, each of them had their own set of insights.

“Sweetheart, is this material enough for you? If not...I’ll rally more friends to help brainstorm!”

“It’s plenty, Grandma! You’ve given me loads of inspiration!” After exchanging a few more words about daily life and reminding her grandmother to take care of her health, Lin Luyu hung up.

Back at her workstation, she began organizing the information she’d gathered, typing her logic into the computer.

By lunchtime, Lin Luyu had already outlined a preliminary scoring logic for products in five categories: clothing, shoes and bags, health supplements, fitness equipment, and digital devices. She decided she’d explore the company platform again in the afternoon.

As soon as the afternoon shift began, Tang Xiao rushed over to Lin Luyu and asked, “Luyu, how’s your progress?”

“Uh, I’ve got a basic framework, but I still want to check out our platform’s front-end display page and refine it further.”

Tang Xiao glanced over the logic she’d written on her computer and nodded in approval. “Alright, follow this approach and keep improving it.”

With that, Tang Xiao moved on to Cheng Li, asking her the same question.

Cheng Li, having started over the weekend, was naturally ahead in progress. “Sis Xiao, my part’s basically done—could you give me some pointers?”

Cheng Li spoke as she gave up her seat. Her work was clearly more complete than Lin Luyu’s, with examples of recommended products for each category already displayed.

By three in the afternoon, Tang Xiao came by again to check on Lin Luyu’s progress. Fortunately, Lin Luyu’s pace was swift, and she was just wrapping up as Tang Xiao inquired.

With a decisive gesture, Tang Xiao brought Lin Luyu and Cheng Li into the meeting room. The three of them needed to consolidate their mind maps into a single proposal to deliver to the user operations team.
