Chapter 024: Disliked for Being Too Cute

A Cat for Every Cat Owner Wise as snow, cold as ice. 1486 words 2026-03-20 05:24:08

Lin Lu You was stunned for a second, then immediately nodded, as if afraid Chen Xujia might change her mind. But the little ball of fluff nestled in Chen Xujia’s arms seemed to foresee its own fate, for it reached out a paw to cling to Chen Xujia’s clothes, refusing to let go.

Good grief, so all of this was intentional?

Now Lin Lu You could finally see things clearly. She felt an urge to grab the scruff of that little furball and interrogate it thoroughly:

Between the two of them, who was truly the victim?

She was scratched until her skin broke and had to get two injections, yet she was perfectly fine. Why did a cat act as if the whole world was ending?

In the end, Lin Lu You didn’t get a chance to play with the adorable cat during lunch. However, when it was time to pay the bill, she managed to sneak in a quick petting of Cola amidst the chaos. At least she got something out of it.

According to Chen Xujia’s original plan, the morning’s one-hour meeting would help the two newcomers get accustomed to the team’s workload. In the afternoon, they would familiarize themselves with the materials uploaded on the intranet.

That way, the next day, Zhenxin and Zhenzhen could gradually start guiding them through their tasks.

However, just as they returned to the seventh floor in the afternoon, the leader of the neighboring Product Operations Team One suddenly appeared out of nowhere:

"Xujia! I heard you got two newcomers today? Let me borrow them for a bit!"

"Liao Yingying! How many people have you already snatched from me, and you still want more?" Chen Xujia looked annoyed. "Didn’t you also submit your recruitment info with Feng Zheng for this campus intake? Why are you still poaching from me?"

Liao Yingying and Chen Xujia had joined the company at the same time and were among the earliest employees at Max. Both started in the marketing department, where their seamless collaboration secured many business deals.

Later, as the company shifted its strategy toward operations, the two of them moved together to Product Operations as part of the internal rotation.

"Come on, my new hires won’t arrive until tomorrow! Just let me borrow yours for now. Once the big sales event starts, I’ll loan you all my people if you want!"

This time, Liao Yingying must have been short-handed, for she even promised to lend out her own team later.

"Fine," Chen Xujia agreed reluctantly, glancing at her two still-green recruits. "Take your laptops and go help Team One for now. Remember to come back as soon as you’re done—there’s plenty waiting for you here, too."

Liao Yingying flashed a heart gesture at Chen Xujia, then hurried away with the two newcomers.

When they arrived at the meeting room, Lin Lu You peeked inside.

Goodness! The room was packed, at least fifty people.

On closer look, she recognized a few faces from that morning.

What kind of trouble was Team One in? It seemed like they’d gathered all the new hires in the company today.

Lin Lu You could hardly be the only one wondering about this; many others were whispering in hushed tones.

"I know you’re all curious," Liao Yingying began as she walked to the front of the room, "why you were recruited for one department but ended up being commandeered by ours."

Her words instantly caught everyone’s attention.

She signaled a colleague to project a document onto the big screen. "As you can see, this is the newly issued ‘Guidelines for Standardizing Product Attribute Tags in E-commerce.’ Previously, we used three-level attribute tags, but according to this new document, all products must now be categorized down to four levels, and, where possible, even to five."

"There are nearly two hundred million products on our platform. Even excluding the rarely used ones, there are still close to a hundred million categories."

"The reason we’ve called you here today is to make sure that, before the Double Eleven sale kicks off, every product has its attribute tags updated according to the new rules. You all have experience with online shopping, so you understand how crucial clear product tags are for a good shopping experience. I don’t need to spell it out for you."

After that, Liao Yingying divided the newcomers into nine groups, each assigned to one of the platform’s nine main product categories.

Each group was led by a senior employee from their team. The newcomers were responsible for retagging the products, which were then submitted for review by the senior staff. Once approved, the files were sent to a five-person final review panel led by Liao Yingying.

After passing both rounds of review, the tags would be officially applied to the system, and an email would be sent to notify the heads of the other operations teams.
