Chapter 056: Successor
Tan Fang nodded beside him. “Yes, that’s what we were thinking too… so we thought we’d just look at clicks and conversions for now. As for the rest, we’ll need to discuss further.”
“You want to focus on just those two for now?” Cheng Yu repeated. “That’s fine. How many days of data do you need?”
“The usual—data from the past thirty days, plus last year’s Double Eleven period. We need both.”
Cheng Yu noted down the request with a mild expression, but inwardly he cursed: Great, another drawn-out task.
“Alright, I’ll send the data to you by email in an hour,” he said. “But really, for these basic data pulls, you all have access, don’t you? Next time, could you try to get it from the database yourselves, instead of always coming to us for everything?”
“Sure, sure, thanks a lot! Next time we improve the team lunch, we definitely won’t forget you.”
“That’s not what I meant! I just want to be more efficient.” Facing Tan Fang’s playful attempt to change the subject, Cheng Yu could only sigh.
“Don’t be upset, I was just joking.” Tan Fang gestured to Cheng Li, who was sitting across from him. “It’s just that we’re not great at programming! But our new colleague here knows a thing or two, so I brought her over so she could learn from you and get familiar with the workflow!”
At that, Cheng Yu glanced over at Cheng Li, giving her a once-over. “Alright, then I’ll look forward to seeing this newcomer grow. Alright, you two head back. I’ll send you the data shortly.”
As he spoke, he tapped the notebook in his hand, then turned and walked away.
“See that?” Tan Fang didn’t leave right away, but turned to Cheng Li and continued, “Besides handling our requests every day, they have their own tasks from their direct supervisors. Every time we talk about requirements with them, it’s like going into battle—racing against the clock and arguing our case. Otherwise, getting sent back with nothing is already the best outcome.”
“As for you, since you can program, make sure you use that to your advantage. In the future, for simple data pulls like this, we can handle them ourselves. No more going to them over and over. It’s a hassle for them and for us.”
“Got it, Brother Tan, I understand,” Cheng Li responded beside him.
She thought to herself, if she could master this job quickly, wouldn’t she leave Lin Lu-yo even further behind? Even if Lin Lu-yo was more popular with most of the team, if she held this “key position,” surely the conversion to full-time in a year would be hers.
With that reassurance, Cheng Li promised Tan Fang again that she would get up to speed as soon as possible.
Seeing how perceptive she was, Tan Fang felt confident he’d made the right choice. After a while, he wouldn’t have to run upstairs just for a bit of data. At least he wouldn’t have to go alone—someone could share the load.
“Besides Cheng Yu just now, and Brother Yu whom you met this morning, there’s also a woman named Cai Yuyao who works with us. Sometimes we all have lunch together, and we occasionally hang out after work. Next time, you should join us.”
Cheng Li realized that Tan Fang was truly bringing her into their circle, letting her get to know the colleagues with whom she’d often work in the future.
At that moment, she felt even more respectful toward this senior colleague.
When the two of them returned to their desks, the joy on Cheng Li’s face hadn’t yet faded. Her eyes were still smiling, her lips curved upward.
“Oh, Lili, what happened to you? Why are you so happy?” Yang Tianqi glanced up and couldn’t help but tease her.
“It’s nothing, really. I suppose I just… gained a lot from earlier!”
