Chapter 046: Returning Ahead of Time
After a day of rest, Lin Lu-yu felt as if she had walked into the wrong place when she returned to the office. It was hard to blame her for feeling this way. She arrived at the company a little after eight, ate breakfast, and went upstairs, only to find the meeting room where she had worked just days before cleaner than if it had been robbed. Not a single thing remained; even her computer and the small welcome gift she had received upon joining had disappeared without a trace.
As she stood there, bewildered, Chen Dan-ling happened to pass by.
"Hey, Lu-yu!"
"Dan-ling, what's going on?"
"I was just worried you might be confused when you came back today, and here you are. Our temporary team has finished its work, so you newcomers are heading back to your respective departments starting today."
"I remember you're in the second group of merchandise operations, right? Hurry back, your team at Xu Jia has been swamped these past few days."
The first wave of the Double Eleven shopping festival was scheduled for the upcoming weekend, and the second merchandise operations group was taking the lead. Right now, everyone wished they could stretch each day into forty-eight hours. The two new members in their group had finally started helping out, but they had been borrowed for three days, which delayed progress.
"Wait, Dan-ling, what do you mean, 'Our temporary team is finished'?" Lin Lu-yu distinctly remembered that when she left on Tuesday, the system showed over six hundred thousand records still waiting to be updated.
How could everything be completed after just one day?
"For that, you'll have to ask Cheng Li from your group."
With these words, Chen Dan-ling strolled off, clearly pleased that her team's task had finished ahead of schedule.
Following the route she remembered, Lin Lu-yu walked toward the area for the second group. From a distance, she saw Cheng Li, He Su-zhen, and Tang Xiao chatting together.
"Lu-yu, over here!" Tang Xiao’s voice was evidently back to normal; she raised it slightly, called out to Lin Lu-yu, and waved.
"We’ve been waiting for you! Otherwise, my left side is empty, and it feels so lonely."
Perhaps because Su Zhen-xin hadn’t arrived yet, He Su-zhen seized the opportunity to tease Tang Xiao. As soon as Tang finished speaking, He Su-zhen interjected:
"You’re not waiting for Lu-yu—you just want someone to talk to!"
"Lu-yu, if you find her too noisy later, come sit on my side! There’s room for one more."
"Nonsense, don’t listen to her! With Zhen-xin absent, she’s just smearing my name!"
Lin Lu-yu smiled as she watched the two banter, thinking how rare it was to encounter such a relaxed work atmosphere.
"Hey, Li-li, I wanted to ask you something…" Lin Lu-yu put down her belongings and took a seat next to Cheng Li. "I ran into Dan-ling earlier, and she said we’re able to return to our own teams early thanks to you. Can I ask what happened?"
"It’s not really my doing," Cheng Li replied, a little embarrassed, "I asked my senior, and together we wrote a program. That way, instead of manually sifting through everything, the system automatically categorizes it!"
So it really could be done!
Lin Lu-yu looked amazed. On her first day handling the data, she’d thought: If only there were a program that could automatically identify these categories and group them. Then, all that would be left was a final manual review.
But programming wasn’t her strong suit, so the idea remained just that—a thought. She never imagined Cheng Li would actually bring it to life.
"Li-li, would you mind if I looked at your code? I’d like to learn from it."
"Well…" Cheng Li hesitated, a hint of difficulty showing on her face.
