The event Lin Yan was attending this time was hardly a formal occasion, so there was no need to dress too grandly. After entering the shopping center, she headed straight for the few stores she frequented, chose a bright red dress and a black shawl, and was just about to pay when Leng Mohan stopped her.

“Why don’t you try them on?”

He genuinely enjoyed shopping for clothes with her and wanted to see her trying them on in the store.

He often had to accompany female celebrities or other women while shopping for business engagements. Not one of them had ever been like Lin Yan—simply choosing something, paying for it, and leaving without even trying it on. The others always tried on clothes endlessly; ideally, they would have him buy the entire store for them.

Lin Yan, however, had always been neat and decisive. She was a homebody who disliked shopping and had no interest in buying clothes. If she did not have to go out, she absolutely would not.

“I shop at this store all the time, so they have my size. I haven’t gained any weight lately, so there’s no need to try them on.” Lin Yan spoke casually as she handed her card to the sales assistant.

The sales assistant beside her was startled. She had assumed the two were strangers who had merely happened to enter the store one after another. She had even been about to ask the gentleman what he needed, never imagining that they knew each other.

The sales assistant turned to swipe the card, but Leng Mohan spoke again.

“Wait.”

He picked up a long dress in a delicate water-blue shade. It was so light and ethereal that it looked like something a fairy might wear on television.

“This one is nice.” Leng Mohan handed the dress to Lin Yan. “Try it on.”

Lin Yan: “…”

She did not reach out to take it. Instead, she stared at the dress for a long while before looking up at him.

“My event is on May twentieth. Won’t I be cold wearing this then?”

Leng Mohan took a white shawl and handed it to her.

“You won’t be cold with this over it.”

“Go try it on.” He lifted his chin.

“Sir, you certainly have a good eye. This shawl and dress are both brand-new designs that have just arrived, and they’re one of a kind. We have the only one in this store, and none of our other branches will carry them either. They may not have been designed by a famous name, but our designer spent several years pouring her heart and soul into them.”

The shop owner emerged at just the right moment.

Half skeptical, Lin Yan took the outfit into the fitting room.

Leng Mohan sat in the lounge area, lightly tapping his fingers against the coffee table. Wearing a half-smile, he looked toward the shop owner.

The moment she saw him, all color drained from her face. She turned and tried to leave.

“Madam, aren’t you going to sit down and have a little chat?” The corners of Leng Mohan’s lips curved slightly, but his gaze was cold enough to freeze a person solid.

“I—I still have things to take care of. Please sit and rest for a while, sir. Your friend will be out shortly.” The shop owner’s face grew even paler, and she began to stammer.

“Vivian counts as a famous designer, doesn’t she? How could you say this dress wasn’t designed by someone famous?” Leng Mohan’s voice carried a faint smile, but the sound of it sent a chill through her.

“What—what Vivian? I don’t understand what you’re talking about.” The shop owner turned her head awkwardly, refusing to meet his eyes.

“Two years ago, the renowned fashion designer Vivian suddenly vanished without a trace. None of the major media outlets found even the slightest clue.” Leng Mohan calmly stated the facts.

“After running for two years, do you still intend to keep running?” His voice was no longer as mild as before. It suddenly became exceedingly stern, and his tone turned several degrees colder.
