That finally managed to make Mrs. Leng stop.

“Mom, eat more.” At the dining table, Leng Mohan kept urging Mrs. Leng to eat more dishes, yet his chopsticks continually reached over to put food into Lin Yan’s bowl.

Looking at the food that was already piled high, Lin Yan glanced at Leng Mohan with great hesitation, only to find he was also watching her. He lowered his head and continued his battle with the meal.

Suddenly, a glass of cola was placed before her.

Lin Yan always liked drinking carbonated beverages while eating, as it helped her eat less rice. She had often done this when dieting—though she knew it was unhealthy, the habit stuck.

Now that she was rather slim, she still enjoyed having a chilled cola after eating something extremely spicy. In her own words, it was an exquisite sensation.

Just like that man—the one who, when seen, felt like a breeze—an utterly elusive feeling, intangible and unfathomable.

“Aren’t you usually fond of drinking cola with your meals? Why aren’t you drinking it today?”

Startled from her daze by Leng Mohan’s casual remark, Lin Yan’s cheeks flushed slightly. She lowered her head and continued eating.

After a few bites, she sensed a gaze fixed on her. Looking up, her eyes met Leng Mohan’s directly. She smiled broadly; he returned the smile, glancing at her in a way that made her heart flutter uneasily.

Just as she reached for the cola, her hand grasped empty air. A long, fair hand took hold of the glass, and without hesitation, drained it completely. In its place, a cup of warm milk was set in her hand.

Lin Yan disliked milk; she had hated it since childhood. She detested its bland, neither sweet nor salty taste—lukewarm and unremarkable, much like her current relationship with Leng Mohan.

Staring at her slender fingertips pressed against the milk cup, Lin Yan felt as if a thousand wild horses galloped through her heart. She looked up at Leng Mohan, but he did not meet her gaze. He calmly picked up his chopsticks, chewing meticulously, the corners of his lips curving into a beautiful arc.

She wasn’t sure if it was her imagination or reality, but she thought she saw a mischievous triumph on his face.

Just like so many times before—but how long had it been since they last saw each other like this?

By the time the meal was over, she felt even more exhausted than after a battle.

Marrying into a wealthy family was certainly no easy feat.

“I’ll return to Qinyuan tomorrow. Please make sure to schedule the matters that need to be addressed as soon as possible,” Mrs. Leng said after finishing her meal, then returned to her own room.

Lin Yan stared blankly at her mother-in-law’s retreating figure, feeling quite frustrated. Helping Aunt Zhang clear the dishes, she then went upstairs to the bedroom. There, she neatly arranged Leng Mohan’s pajamas by the bedside before entering the small study attached to her room.

The cold red light of the computer mouse flickered, and Lin Yan suddenly remembered that before her mother-in-law arrived, she had been working on an article. Hastily clicking the mouse twice, she found a flurry of messages from the editor-in-chief on QQ—an overwhelming bombardment.

Lin Yan hurriedly replied, “I… just had something come up. I will definitely submit this article tomorrow. Please rest assured.”

After responding to the various messages on QQ, she opened the unsaved document from earlier, breathing a sigh of relief that it was still intact.

She had always used the best computer available. Perhaps it could be said that ever since she married Leng Mohan, everything she used was of the highest quality. He never spared any expense when it came to finances.

She recalled him saying that even if it was just for show, he wanted to show that she was his wife, Leng Mohan. So, even though she was capable of supporting herself, she was willing to occasionally accept his money.
