Chapter 11: Mother-in-Law Found a Nutrition Business (4)
Madam Leng smiled gently and said, “Look at me, I’m really getting old—my words all jumbled up.” She paused, then glared at Leng Mohan. “You booked me on a world tour group? Are you trying to keep me away from home forever? You little brat, do you want your mother to be stuck in a foreign land forever?”
“Aunt, you don’t mean that. Brother Mohan couldn’t possibly think that way. He just wants you to get some fresh air and clear your mind,” Ye Ye spoke up before Leng Mohan could respond.
She didn’t look at Madam Leng as she spoke; her violet eyes were enchanting and alluring, fixed directly on Leng Mohan, her gaze shifting playfully.
Yet Leng Mohan seemed oblivious to Ye Ye’s coquettish glance. He turned and began ascending the stairs, then called back from the landing, “Yan Yan, come up here for a moment.”
Lin Yan glanced at her grandmother-in-law. Madam Leng smiled and waved her on, saying, “Ye Ye and I haven’t seen each other in years. We’ll chat for a while. You and Mohan go upstairs to get ready; we’ll be leaving soon.”
Lin Yan followed Leng Mohan upstairs, hearing Ye Ye’s lively voice behind her, asking, “Aunt, where are you heading?”
“I have to return to Qingyuan. Your Uncle Leng is there alone. If I don’t go back soon, he’ll starve. I’ve been here two days already. With his personality, aside from being enthusiastic about his military drills, he’s hardly motivated to eat. If you don’t keep an eye on him, he’s sure to starve himself silly,” Madam Leng’s voice was gentle, filled with a mix of helplessness and contentment.
“Aunt and Uncle’s love is truly admirable—so enviable. Uncle has been so devoted to Aunt all these years, a man utterly faithful. I suppose Brother Mohan has inherited some of Uncle’s qualities. Sister Lin Yan is really lucky; I haven’t been so fortunate...” Ye Ye’s voice trailed behind Lin Yan until she entered the room.
Leng Mohan leaned against the bedpost, watching her. When she came in, he walked over, circled behind her, and slammed the door shut, cutting off Ye Ye’s voice completely.
Lin Yan looked at him curiously. “What is it?”
“Nothing.” Leng Mohan lifted the dress placed on the bed’s edge. “Are you sure you’re not wearing this tonight?”
“No,” Lin Yan glanced at the dress confidently.
Leng Mohan hung the dress back on its hanger and returned it to the wardrobe. Lin Yan couldn’t understand why he had called her upstairs and asked again, “Was there something you wanted to talk about?”
He looked at her with a smile and said, “I thought you’d be bored listening to their endless chatter, so I called you up here.”
Lin Yan curled her lips. “Endless chatter? It’s more like real talk. According to Mom, you nearly got betrothed to Ye Ye when you were kids. She really is a rare beauty. Now she regrets it, but it seems a little too late.”
Leng Mohan raised an eyebrow, his expression half amused, half teasing, but said nothing further. Yet his mood seemed to brighten suddenly as he lounged lazily on the sofa and casually turned on the television in the bedroom.
Their bedroom was enormous, resembling an entire apartment in other households, fully equipped with everything one could need.
Lin Yan stood beside him for a while, feeling there was truly nothing to do. Since their marriage, moments of private time like this had been scarce, so she still felt somewhat awkward.
Turning away, she entered the study adjoining the bedroom, powered on the computer, and logged into QQ. The editor’s message popped up immediately.
