Chapter 12: The Mother-in-Law Hired a Nutritionist (5)
Turning around, she entered the bedroom’s attached study, powered on the computer, and logged into QQ. The editor-in-chief’s message popped up immediately.
“Soaring a Thousand Miles: Yanyan, where’s your manuscript?”
Lin Yan suddenly remembered that she had promised to submit the manuscript today. Hastily, she copied the file from her USB drive to the computer, quickly reviewed it, and then sent it off.
Yanyan: “Editor-in-chief, I’m sending it for your review first. If any changes are needed, just let me know, but I’m afraid I won’t have time today—I have to go out.”
Soaring a Thousand Miles: “Alright, go ahead. If there aren’t any major issues, I’ll make minor adjustments for you.”
Lin Yan smiled softly, typed a quick “thank you,” and then closed the chat window.
She always knew that Soaring a Thousand Miles was a good editor. Though sometimes strict, he would never hold a grudge if you had something important to attend to.
Just as she finished organizing everything, a slightly husky voice came from outside the door—Leng Mohan’s voice. “Are you ready? Mom said we’re about to leave.”
“Almost, almost,” Lin Yan replied, tidying up the study a bit before quickly stepping out.
On the way downstairs, Ye Ye was hugging Madam Leng. “Aunt, are you really sure you don’t want me to see you off?”
“You just arrived, you should rest first. With Xiao Han and Yanyan sending me off, it’s enough. Come visit Qingyuan when you get a chance.”
Madam Leng patted Ye Ye’s hand warmly before turning to leave.
Lin Yan followed behind Leng Mohan and Madam Leng. Both carried their hands full, suggesting Madam Leng had bought quite a lot this time.
After getting into the car, Leng Mohan took the passenger seat while Lin Yan and Madam Leng sat in the back. Madam Leng held Lin Yan’s hand, smiling brightly. “Yanyan, just now your mother mentioned that Ye Ye almost had an arranged engagement with Xiao Han. I hope you don’t mind? Actually, that was all in the past—it’s nothing to worry about. Nowadays, they’re practically like siblings.”
Lin Yan lowered her head, her large eyes hidden beneath long lashes, making it hard to discern her feelings. Leng Mohan glanced at her through the rearview mirror but couldn’t read her expression. His brow furrowed slightly; he disliked the feeling of not being able to see through someone.
After a moment, Lin Yan raised her head, smiled gently, and shook it. “Mom, I’m already aware of all that.”
In truth, she knew her mother-in-law was not one to gossip, nor foolish enough to say everything she thought. Her words were meant to apply gentle pressure, urging her to have a child soon. She desperately wanted a grandson but had made the elder wait too long.
In Huaicheng, countless women vied fiercely to become a member of the Leng family, but there was only one son. He should have married the beautiful and intelligent Lin Shan, but in the end, he married her—a woman with neither talent nor fame, and lacking in beauty.
Now, to secure her place as a Leng family daughter-in-law, she had to bear an heir—a robust son. Her mother-in-law understood this truth deeply, which was why she exerted this pressure.
“Mom, don’t scare Yanyan like that,” Leng Mohan smiled from the passenger seat.
“How do you mean? I’m not a villainous mother-in-law, right, Yanyan?” Madam Leng squeezed Lin Yan’s hand, beaming.
Lin Yan nodded slightly.
The car soon arrived at the airport. Leng Mohan went to handle the check-in while Madam Leng pulled Lin Yan aside to remind her of many precautions. Finally, she slipped a note into Lin Yan’s hand, speaking mysteriously, “These are some folk remedies I found. They say they’re quite effective. You should try them too. There’s no harm, and even if they don’t help with conception, they’ll improve your health.”
