Chapter 85: You’re Still That Honey Girl
Seeing Zhang Yang’s expression, Jiang Yun made a decision. He resolved to help Zhang Yang. The reason he had hesitated for so long was that Jiang Yun wanted to treat everyone fairly. Both were his students—he had a way to assist Zhang Yang, but Lin Xiaohe’s situation was much more complicated.
Jiang Yun opened his computer, activated his hacker service software, and directly hacked into Han Han’s computer, phone, and email, as well as all her communication channels.
At last, Jiang Yun found an audio recording—a phone call in which Han Han had accidentally pressed the record button, leaving behind the evidence.
“Zhang Yang, go home first. There should be a result by tomorrow.”
Looking at Jiang Yun’s calm demeanor, Zhang Yang instantly regained his composure.
“Alright, Mr. Jiang Yun.”
Zhang Yang walked out of the office. As he passed the two staff members, he snorted angrily and left Jiang Yun’s company.
Downstairs, Zhang Yang hailed a taxi and departed.
Jiang Yun sat in his office, his mind preoccupied with how to help Lin Xiaohe.
How could he help her? Both were his students; he couldn’t help one and not the other. Yet Lin Xiaohe’s predicament truly left him at a loss.
Meanwhile, a woman in her fifties, leading two children by the hand, arrived at Jiang Yun’s company.
“We’d like to see Mr. Jiang Yun!”
“Are you relatives of the boss?” The receptionist, Xiao Lu, was no longer as indifferent as before.
Xiao Lu picked up the phone and dialed, “Boss, someone’s here to see you!”
“Who is it?”
“It’s an auntie with two children.”
“Did she say what it’s about?”
“No.”
“Alright, let them in then.”
“Okay!”
Xiao Lu led the woman into Jiang Yun’s office.
The woman, holding the hands of the two children, entered the office.
Jiang Yun sat in his chair, regarding her, “And you are?”
“Mr. Jiang Yun, my surname is Xue—Xue Lan. I am the director of the Welfare Institute in Xiangxiang Doping District,” Xue Lan said.
“Director Xue, nice to meet you. Is there something you need?”
“We came from Xiangxiang, traveled all night by train, just so Mr. Jiang Yun could see something.”
Jiang Yun frowned as Xue Lan took something from her bag, wrapped in layer upon layer of cloth.
After unwrapping the final layer, Xue Lan revealed a diary.
She handed the notebook to Jiang Yun.
Jiang Yun opened it, his brows furrowing as he surveyed the yellowed pages and faded ink.
He began to read.
“February 2015, Lin Xiaohe donated 1,000 yuan.”
“March 2015, Lin Xiaohe donated 500 yuan.”
“April 2015, Lin Xiaohe donated 300 yuan.”
“May 2015, Lin Xiaohe donated 800 yuan.”
…
Jiang Yun slowly exhaled, feeling a slight dampness at the corner of his eyes.
He read further; the most recent entry was from November 2021—a donation of 1,300 yuan.
Jiang Yun turned to the “Total” page.
“November 2017, Lin Xiaohe’s cumulative donations: 10,000 yuan.”
“November 2019, Lin Xiaohe’s cumulative donations: 30,000 yuan.”
“November 2021… Cumulative donations: 50,000 yuan.”
“Director Xue, I’ll contact the press right now!”
“Thank you, Mr. Jiang Yun!”
Jiang Yun picked up the phone and dialed in front of Xue Lan, “Hello, Magic City TV Station?”
“This is Jiang Yun!”
“I have a news story here—I think you’ll be interested!”
“Alright, let’s do it!”
“Come directly to my company!”
“Okay! See you soon!”
After hanging up, Jiang Yun made another call, “Hello, Real-Time Microblog? I have a news story for you!”
…
“Alright, just come to my company!”
Jiang Yun then called Lin Xiaohe.
“Mr. Jiang Yun, you don’t need to comfort me.”
“Come to my company. Someone is here to see you.”
“Someone to see me? Who?”
“Director Xue Lan!”
Jiang Yun was a meticulous person. After hanging up, he called Xiao Lu at the front desk, “Buy some hamburgers, yogurt, snacks, and order some light takeout—preferably porridge.”
“Okay, boss!”
“Good.”
Jiang Yun hung up, looking at the two children—a boy and a girl. The girl seemed about eleven or twelve; the boy about seven or eight.
Jiang Yun smiled kindly at them, “Are you two hungry? You’ll have something to eat soon.”
The children stood quietly beside Xue Lan, saying nothing.
They were independent, Jiang Yun mused silently.
Knock, knock, knock!
“Come in!”
Xiao Lu entered, carrying a large bag in her right hand and a takeout order in her left.
Jiang Yun stood up, took the items, and personally arranged them on the table, “Go to President Li for reimbursement.”
“Yes, boss!”
Xiao Lu left.
“Kids, go ahead and eat!” Jiang Yun handed a hamburger to the little boy.
The boy stood still.
Xue Lan patted his head, “Eat.”
The boy took the hamburger, opened the wrapper, and ate slowly and carefully.
Jiang Yun gave another hamburger to the girl. She hesitated, took it, but didn’t eat, instead handing it to Xue Lan.
Xue Lan shook her head.
“Sweetheart, eat it yourself, Director Xue Lan has food here,” Jiang Yun said, opening the rice porridge and placing some steamed buns and rolls before Xue Lan.
“Hm? What’s this?” Jiang Yun looked inside and, to his surprise, found black rice porridge.
He opened another, and his forehead creased—it was millet porridge.
Jiang Yun was at a loss.
Xue Lan and the girl remained polite and hardly ate. Only the little boy, being young, finished two hamburgers and a bottle of yogurt.
Xue Lan ate just one roll.
The girl tucked the hamburger into her pocket.
Ring, ring, ring!
Jiang Yun answered.
“Boss, Miss Lin is here.”
“Let her in!”
“Alright!”
Knock, knock, knock!
“Come in!”
Xiao Lu opened the door, and Lin Xiaohe entered.
“Aunt Xue, what brings you here?”
Xue Lan stood and replied, “I came to see you!”
“But… if you’re here to see me, why come to Jiang Yun’s office?”
“To see you, and to see Mr. Jiang Yun as well.”
“Well then, Aunt Xue, let’s go. We won’t trouble Mr. Jiang Yun any longer!” Lin Xiaohe took the little boy’s hand, ready to leave.
“Wait!”
“Mr. Jiang Yun, what is it?” Lin Xiaohe asked.
“The reporters will be here soon—wait for them before you go.”
“Reporters? Mr. Jiang Yun, why did you call reporters?”
Jiang Yun smiled mysteriously, “You’ll find out soon enough.”
Ring, ring, ring!
Jiang Yun answered.
“Boss, the reporters have arrived.”
“Let them in.”
Reporters from Magic City TV and Real-Time Microblog entered Jiang Yun’s office.
“Mr. Jiang Yun, you called to say you had news—what is it?”
Jiang Yun opened his palm and gestured toward Xue Lan, “This is the director of the Welfare Institute in Xiangxiang Doping District.”
The female reporter from Magic City TV frowned, unsure what Jiang Yun meant.
Both teams of reporters looked puzzled…
