Chapter Seventy-Nine: Jiang Yun's Counterattack
A yellow Beetle sped down the highway...
"Jiang Yun, I want to eat your cooking!"
"Alright!"
Jiang Yun drove, taking Li Mengya to the largest supermarket in Magic City. Both wore sunglasses and masks as they entered the fresh produce section and began selecting ingredients. They filled two entire shopping carts.
At checkout, face recognition was required, so Li Mengya took off her mask. A passerby caught sight of her and gasped, "Oh my god, are you Li Mengya?"
Li Mengya smiled.
"I've liked you for so long, Li Mengya! Could you sign your name for me?"
Li Mengya nodded.
The girl borrowed a pen from the supermarket. Li Mengya took it and signed her name.
"Li Mengya, why haven't you been active lately?" the fan asked.
Li Mengya's mood soured instantly.
Jiang Yun, arms folded, noticed and frowned—he needed to help Li Mengya resolve this quickly.
Soon, other shoppers noticed the commotion. Whether they recognized Li Mengya or not, they all crowded around, clamoring for her autograph. Surrounded by fans, Li Mengya inadvertently caused a bottleneck in the crowd.
"Please don't push, everyone—be careful not to cause a stampede!"
"One at a time, everyone will get a signature!" Jiang Yun started organizing the crowd.
A passerby pulled Jiang Yun aside and whispered, "Hey man, are you Li Mengya's bodyguard? Could you ask her if she still needs one?"
Jiang Yun almost burst out laughing—he wanted to say he wasn't her bodyguard. The man was a bit on the heavy side, not exactly reassuring.
Supermarket security began helping maintain order.
"Please queue up and don’t block the checkout."
Li Mengya signed an autograph for everyone, taking a full hour.
By the time they left the supermarket, it was already past eight.
Jiang Yun drove the yellow Beetle, taking Li Mengya to Panhai Gardens. Together, they unloaded their many purchases from the trunk—so many, in fact, that the trunk wouldn’t close and remained open the entire drive.
They made their way to the seventh floor. Li Mengya took out her keys to open the door.
"Mengya, isn't it funny? I bought an apartment on the seventh floor too."
Once inside, Li Mengya flicked on the lights. "The kitchen's over there!"
"Got it!"
Jiang Yun carried the groceries into the kitchen, sorted them, and neatly stacked everything in the fridge.
He donned an apron and rolled up his sleeves. First, he rinsed the rice and set it to steam. Then he washed two tomatoes, cracked six eggs into a clean bowl.
He heated oil in the pan, scrambled the eggs until cooked, then set them aside. Next came scallions and chilies, the tomatoes, and finally the eggs—classic tomato and egg stir-fry, done.
He cut long beans into sections, sliced purple eggplant into strips, and whipped up a plate of stir-fried beans and eggplant.
He made two more dishes—a plate of shredded potatoes and a spicy pork stir-fry, plus a hot and sour tripe soup.
Dinner was ready.
Jiang Yun set the dishes and soup on the table, scooped the rice.
"Dinner's ready—come eat!"
"Alright!"
Li Mengya, already in her pajamas, came to the dining room, and they began their meal.
The phone rang.
Li Mengya glanced at the screen and declined the call.
It rang again.
This time, she answered, snapping, "Stop calling me!"
She hung up.
Jiang Yun frowned. "Who was that?"
"The general manager of FeiYu Entertainment, Zhang Dawei."
"What does he want?"
"Nothing important."
The phone rang again. As Li Mengya reached to hang up, Jiang Yun gently took the phone from her.
Li Mengya frowned. "Jiang Yun, you..."
Jiang Yun gestured for her to trust him.
He answered and put the phone on speaker.
"Hello, Mengya. How does it feel to be a star? Hard to let go, isn't it?"
"Your video signing autographs for fans at the supermarket is all over the internet—it’s trending! Seeing all those passionate fans, don’t you miss being a celebrity?"
"Mengya, just agree to my terms and the top singer's spot is yours again. The company’s doors are wide open, and we’ll upgrade your benefits."
Jiang Yun frowned and quietly asked Li Mengya, "What terms is he talking about?"
Li Mengya sighed. "Since it's come to this, I might as well tell you. He means the unspoken rules..."
Damn! Jiang Yun was furious. How dare that bastard lay hands on his woman? He’d show him exactly why flowers are so red!
If you mess with my woman, you must have a death wish!
Jiang Yun picked up the phone, crossed his legs. "Director Zhang!"
On the other end, Zhang Dawei frowned—why was there a man’s voice?
"Who is this?"
"Director Zhang, just wait to eat prison food!"
"Who the hell are you—"
Jiang Yun hung up.
"Hello? Hello?! Are you crazy?" Zhang Dawei roared into the phone, but Jiang Yun had already ended the call.
On the other end—
"Jiang Yun, that was reckless! Why not just ignore him?"
Jiang Yun motioned for Li Mengya to relax. "Leave it to me."
He picked up his phone and activated his hacking skills.
His phone screen turned blue, lines of code flashing across it.
Jiang Yun hacked directly into FeiYu Entertainment’s database, Zhang Dawei’s computer, and his phone.
In just five minutes, Jiang Yun found everything he needed.
FeiYu Entertainment had committed tax evasion; Manager Zhang Dawei had repeatedly coerced artists under the table, forced them into unfair contracts, and organized unsavory gatherings.
"Hmph."
Jiang Yun sneered. Zhang Dawei, was it? Just wait and see how you like a nice cup of '82 iced tea!
He logged into his "Justice Messenger" account and uploaded everything.
His hacking skills brought along an army of bots—within minutes, the news shot to the top of the trending topics. Netizens online were stunned by the explosive revelations.
The scandal immediately alerted the authorities.
FeiYu Entertainment couldn’t even suppress the trending topic. By the time they reacted, they’d already been summoned for questioning.
That was exactly Jiang Yun's intent—swift and decisive action.
Investigations began overnight, and by dawn, Zhang Dawei and his associates were already having their "tea," and it was indeed from 1982.
"Mengya, don’t worry—it’s all settled. You’ll hear the news in the next couple of days."
"I hope so..." she sighed.
"Mengya, I’ll be off now. I’ve finished the song you asked me to write—when you make your comeback, we’ll sing it together!"
"Together?"
"Yes, together!"
"Jiang Yun..." Li Mengya softly called his name.
"What is it?" Jiang Yun asked, puzzled.
Li Mengya hesitated. "Could you stay with me tonight? I’m a bit scared..."
"Uh..."
She looked at him expectantly.
"I’ll sleep on the sofa, then!"
"Okay!" Li Mengya went to her room, brought out a comforter, and laid it out on the sofa with care.
She seemed to have something more to say.
"What’s wrong?" Jiang Yun asked.
"I’m still scared..."
Jiang Yun glanced around. "Then don’t close your door tonight. That way, you can see me just by looking out."
"Alright."
ps: That’s the fourth update for today!
