When husband and wife are of one mind, their combined strength can cut through even the hardest gold.
“I set a card face down and end my turn.”
After setting a trap card face down, Yugi ended his turn.
“You little brat! My turn, draw!”
He hadn’t expected this monster, which had once fought Bonz, to have such a special ability—to convert light energy into electricity.
He had underestimated it.
But—
“Heh heh!”
Glancing at the card he’d just drawn, Keith let out a sly chuckle and played a monster card from his hand.
“I attack summon ‘Slot Machine AM-7’!”
Modeled after a slot machine, a bronze-and-gold robot appeared on Keith’s field.
(Slot Machine AM-7, Level 7, Attack: 2000)
“Next, I’ll equip it with the Equip Spell ‘7 Card’.”
As the Equip Spell “7 Card” was placed in the slot machine’s spell/trap zone, Yugi could clearly see the red “?” on the slot machine’s chest change. With the effect of “7 Card,” the pattern rolled until it displayed the number “7.”
“The effect of 7 Card: Only Machine-type monsters can be equipped with it, and I can choose to increase either the monster’s attack or defense by 700 points!”
Since Slot Machine was summoned in attack position, Keith would naturally choose to boost its attack.
(Slot Machine AM-7, Attack: 2000 → 2700)
“Go! Slot Machine! Plasma Laser Cannon!!”
Type advantages, such as attribute superiority, only apply when you’re on the offensive. When being attacked by an opponent’s monster, those advantages don’t take effect.
Thus, at this moment, Elemental HERO Sparkman, with 2240 attack points, was weaker than the Slot Machine boosted by “7 Card.”
“At this moment, I activate the trap card ‘Hero Barrier’!”
Seeing the laser cannon blast from Slot Machine about to destroy Sparkman, Yugi hurriedly activated the card he’d set at the end of his last turn.
“When an ‘Elemental HERO’ monster I control is attacked, I can activate Hero Barrier to negate that attack!”
A spinning metal shield appeared beside Sparkman, effortlessly blocking the Slot Machine’s 2700-power laser blast.
“Che! Blocked by a trap card!”
He’d just been so sure he’d destroy Sparkman this turn, only to have his attack deflected by a mere little shield.
“In that case, I’ll set a card face down and end my turn.”
If you can set cards to block attacks, so can I—let’s see what you do!
“My turn, draw!”
Seeing the spell card he drew, Yugi’s face tightened. This spell was a double-edged sword—its effect could help or hinder.
But right now, he had no choice but to rely on it! The cards in his hand, together with Sparkman on the field, weren’t enough to defeat the Slot Machine powered by “7 Card.”
“I activate the spell card ‘Ace Chalice’ from my hand!”
On the field, a golden chalice suddenly appeared. Under Keith’s puzzled gaze, the chalice tilted until a solid gold coin rolled out of its mouth.
“When Ace Chalice is activated, I flip a coin. If it lands on heads—the side with a single eye—I draw two cards from my deck. If it lands on tails—the blank side—you, my opponent, draw two cards.”
“Oh, a gambling-style draw spell!”
As an American, and especially with Yugi’s detailed explanation, Keith found himself intrigued by this “Ace Chalice.”
Heads, he draws two cards; tails, his opponent does… Interesting!
If he won the duel, he’d take this card as one of his three wagered cards.
‘Luck stat, 50… Please!’
Thinking of his own personal status screen, Yugi prayed silently. With a luck stat of 50, this kind of gambling card was a toss-up—enough to make anyone nervous!
“Ding!”
Moments later, the spinning coin came to a stop, one side facing up on the duel field.
“It’s… heads, the side with the single eye! Yes!”
Seeing the result, Yugi excitedly drew two cards from the top of his deck. As long as it was heads, Ace Chalice became an alternate “Pot of Greed”! In fact, in Duel Links, it even had an alternate name—“Cup of Greed”!
Looking at the two cards drawn via Ace Chalice, they were both spell cards, but the kind that made Yugi’s eyes shine with excitement.
The pieces for victory were now in his hand!
“I activate the spell card ‘HERO Unity’ from my hand! If I control a ‘HERO’ monster, I can use its effect to special summon two other ‘Elemental HERO’ monsters from my hand, as long as their levels are four or lower.”
Naturally, the ones Yugi would summon were the other two members of the Fantastic Four—the only female, “Blazing Lady,” and her ‘husband,’ “Wingman.”
“So that’s it? Just two rookie monsters whose combined attack doesn’t even break 3000?”
Looking at the two monsters beside Sparkman—Blazing Lady with 1680 attack, and Wingman hovering in the air with 1400—Keith couldn’t help but sneer.
When he’d heard the effect of HERO Unity, he’d expected Yugi to summon another monster as powerful as Sparkman. Instead, it was just two weaklings whose combined strength just barely matched his Slot Machine!
“I’d advise you not to underestimate them, because—”
Before Yugi could finish, Wingman beat his wings, stirring the air, accelerating its flow, and whipping up a hurricane.
Amid Keith’s confusion, Wingman swept the whirlwind toward Keith’s field, engulfed the Slot Machine, and then, with a sudden surge, hurled it high into the air.
Seeing his own monster lifted skyward, Blazing Lady, who had been poised and ready, launched a basketball-sized fireball with perfect timing.
As his “wife” attacked, Wingman instantly ceased the hurricane, causing the Slot Machine, now unsupported, to plummet toward the ground at incredible speed.
In the growing astonishment of Keith and his crew, the moment the Slot Machine hit the ground, Blazing Lady’s fireball struck dead-on!
“Boom!”
Fireball met Slot Machine, Slot Machine met the ground, and the ensuing explosion rivaled dynamite.
“Those two will pulverize your monster, shattering it beyond repair!”
The words Yugi had left unfinished were carried over by the sound of the explosion, drifting faintly from the pile of Keith’s destroyed cards.
Keith’s group of four: “……”
Could two rookie monsters really do all that?
“This is a special combo attack between Blazing Lady and Wingman! While it can destroy even the mightiest monsters, it won’t inflict any damage to the opponent.”
What Yugi hadn’t mentioned was that this special combo only worked against certain types of monsters with particular weaknesses.
As it happened, Keith’s Machine-type monster was exactly the kind this combo was designed to annihilate!
