Chapter 152: Kratos on Chaos Difficulty is Brutal
Having finally managed to gloss over the suggestive scene, Luo Chen breathed a sigh of relief. Fortunately, the thrilling combat sequences that followed quickly reclaimed the audience's attention; otherwise, there was no telling how long he would have been pestered by these fans craving fanservice.
After executing all the gods who appeared in the opening, the Kratos, fully loaded with divine gear, finally initiated the showdown against the ultimate antagonist—Zeus, King of the Gods!
Having maintained a no-damage run all the way here, Zeus was the final obstacle to overcome. Quite a few viewers were deeply impressed by Zeus’s imposing entrance at the start, where a single lightning spear cast both Kratos and Gaia down from Mount Olympus, leaving the audience brimming with anticipation.
Right at the beginning, following some chuunibyou dialogue, Zeus took the initiative, gathering electricity in his left hand and lunging forward with a sprint.
"The decisive battle with Zeus begins! When his left hand starts crackling with electricity, it means he is about to use a grab attack..."
Controlling Kratos, Luo Chen executed a roll followed by a fierce leap, dodging Zeus's opening grab. Landing, he counterattacked by whipping out his Blades of Exile to reel Zeus in, then used his right hand, encased in the Nemean Cestus, to smash Zeus straight against the wall behind him.
Just as Kratos intended to follow up with a couple more punches, Zeus decisively transformed into lightning and teleported to the center of the arena, slamming his right hand onto the ground to summon a pillar of lightning that blanketed the entire area before him.
After successfully parrying and deflecting the lightning erupting from the ground, Kratos delivered a heavy punch square into Zeus's face. What followed was close-quarters hand-to-hand combat between the father-son duo of Zeus and Kratos. Unfortunately, facing Kratos's relentless assault, all of Zeus's attacks were parried and blocked, forcing him to retreat step by step until he was cornered against the wall once again.
Seeing Zeus—who had shouldered such high expectations—beaten to a pulp with no room to fight back, the audience couldn't help but roast the so-called ultimate boss for being entirely underwhelming. He looked so badass at the start, who would have thought he'd turn into a coward the moment he got here.
[Zeus: What the hell, Chaos difficulty Kratos is ridiculously hard to fight.]
[Where's the opening lightning spear? Did this Zeus throw the match?]
[Sigh, Zeus is clearly a mage, yet he insists on a fistfight with Kratos. Isn't that just courting death?]
[Tragic. The Olympian gods practically went extinct trying to deal with Kratos, and yet they couldn't even scratch him!]
[No, no, no. The no-damage run is purely because the Angel God is too OP. Didn't you see Kratos get knocked down by Zeus at the very beginning? If that opening wasn't scripted and the God of Angels was controlling him the whole time, Zeus would have been toast ages ago.]
......
"Fighting up to this point, Zeus is practically out of health. Time to finish the first phase with a QTE execution!"
Amidst the audience's banter, Zeus—who possessed an absurdly thick health bar—was finally beaten to a sliver. Following the QTE, the game transitioned automatically into a cinematic CG.
Zeus and Kratos exchanged a punch right to each other's faces, sending both flying back simultaneously to crash, bleeding, against the walls on either side. Struggling to his feet, Zeus threw another straight punch, but unfortunately for him, Kratos had his blades. Relying on his weapons, Kratos flicked Zeus into the air with a blade strike, then hurled his chains to anchor onto Zeus, leaped horizontally to close the distance, and slashed furiously across Zeus's body.
[Pfft, so much for a hand-to-hand brawl! Kratos is actually using swords!]
[Poor Zeus, getting bullied while fighting barehanded.....]
[You fools, my boy has gear!]
[Is this guy really the final boss of Chaos difficulty, Zeus?]
[No, you should say Kratos on Chaos difficulty is the real boss. The fact that Zeus lasted this long is already pretty badass!]
.....
Following the brawl, a defeated Zeus was finally knocked flat on the ground, allowing Kratos to finally draw close to the Pandora's Box, which ran through the entire God of War series.
Hailed as holding the power capable of allowing its opener to slay a god, the interior of Pandora's Box was completely empty. Of course, even without that power, Kratos had already dispatched more than a single god. But since the plot demanded it, Zeus miraculously resurrected with a full health bar, offering taunts.
"Empty? Hahaha... After all your pursuits and every sacrifice you made, it turns out your reward is nothing more than yet another failure! Hahahaha..."
Just as the second round of combat was about to commence, the Titan Mother Gaia made her return, using her dozens-of-meters-long hand to smash the battle arena of Zeus and Kratos to pieces, declaring war on both of them simultaneously.
Regrettably, while Gaia’s talent for digging her own grave was directly proportional to her size, it was inversely proportional to her combat prowess. Aside from providing a combat platform, her hundreds-of-meters-tall body seemed utterly useless.
In the end, Kratos used the Blade of Olympus to pierce through the hearts of both Zeus and Gaia simultaneously, bringing an end to the eternal narrator and arena-provider Gaia.
Following a sequence of cutscenes, Kratos—having eliminated every living being that had ever laid eyes on him—achieved the apocalyptic rating and ultimately committed suicide, completing the entire game hitless and damage-free!
As the game concluded, it felt as though all the viewers had momentarily vanished; even the bullet chats dwindled down to a trickle. Just as Luo Chen was wondering what was going on, the financial titan Wudao's super donation arrived first...
[The heavens and earth tremble! Senior VIP Tycoon Wudao tipped one hundred million Stardust Coins!: A million promised for a no-damage run, and a promise kept!]
Perhaps the tycoon's generous tip snapped these dazed viewers back to reality, as the subsequent donations poured in endlessly. Some viewers even stopped sending bullet chats altogether, opting to donate and chat directly!
[Senior VIP Piercing the Heavens tipped one million Stardust Coins!: Is it really over? What the hell was that ending with Kratos committing suicide?]
[Senior VIP Apocalyptic God of War tipped seven hundred thousand Stardust Coins!: The world's already destroyed, what else is he supposed to do if not kill himself?]
[Senior VIP Qingling tipped five hundred thousand Stardust Coins: Hahaha... Looking across God of War 3, it seems everyone who ever met Kratos ended up dead.]
[Senior VIP Iron-Blood Dragon God tipped five hundred thousand Stardust Coins: A true no-damage run! I'm completely in awe!]
[Senior VIP Five Heroes of Tiger Mountain tipped three hundred thousand Stardust Coins: Am I the only one who thinks Gaia had it rough?]
......
The sheer volume of tips left Luo Chen utterly tongue-tied. Even if only one in ten thousand of the over twenty million viewers was willing to donate, that still amounted to over two thousand contributions—and naturally, the conversion rate was bound to be much higher than that.
Waiting until these fans had vented their overwhelming emotions, Luo Chen finally spoke up to bring the livestream to a close. To be able to keep tens of millions of people staying up all night alongside him was likely something that would only ever happen this once.
He couldn't help wondering how many students and office workers would oversleep and be late for work or school the next day. Glancing at the pale, breaking dawn, Luo Chen chuckled softly.
Well, they certainly couldn't blame him for that...
