081 Otherwise, you'll be sorry! (Please add to your collection)
“Coach, would you like to join in?”
“That’s right, Coach, you should do something too, otherwise it’s just us taking the fall.”
“Coach Fu, show us something! You’re so handsome—surely you’ve got a few tricks up your sleeve?”
After a few of the female trainees performed some talents, it was unclear who started it, but soon a chorus of voices rose, urging Fu Lin and the other instructors to show off their own skills.
Of course, the military is nothing like the entertainment industry. In the army, only the cultural troops possess such talents. The rest of them—rough men, through and through—knew little besides physical training, hand-to-hand combat, weaponry, scaling buildings, or tactical maneuvers. And none of those could simply be performed on the spot.
Fu Lin was no exception. Though he had grown up in a privileged family, he had always aspired, under the influence of his ancestors, to be a hero serving his country and his people. So from childhood, what he learned was all military-related. Not only could he not perform these things, he wasn’t even really allowed to talk about them. There were a few things he could demonstrate, like assembling a grenade by hand or crafting a homemade cannon, but… how could he show off something like that now? He didn’t even have the materials.
As a result, all the instructors’ faces were painted with embarrassment. Fu Lin, singled out by name, felt doubly mortified. He stood up and said, “I don’t really have any other talents. How about I sing a song?”
“What’s the point of singing? Show us something else!” a female trainee objected the moment he finished.
It was a deliberate challenge, but Fu Lin felt as if he had dodged a bullet. His singing really couldn’t compare to these trainees—each of them was a musical prodigy, with music theory as their foundation. Singing here would be like wielding a broadsword at the gates of a master.
“But besides singing, there’s nothing else I can do. Maybe a demonstration of military boxing?” he suggested.
“We practice that every day,” came the immediate rejection.
The female trainees, eyes glinting like hungry wolves, stared him down. At that moment, it was as if Fu Lin himself were the lamb to the slaughter. Seeing his handsome face twisted with embarrassment, a few of the trainees couldn’t help but laugh. Then, amid the laughter, a clear, bright voice rang out—
“Coach Fu, why don’t you show us your abs?”
Every head swiveled in unison.
The speaker was none other than Song Yazhi. At that moment, she was the very picture of a shameless flirt, hiding her face as she turned away, giggling. She was a little shy herself, but her suggestion was quickly echoed by the others.
“That’s right—show us your abs!”
“If you can’t perform, just let us see your abs!”
“Let us touch them, see what real chocolate abs feel like!”
One after another, the previously restrained “pack of wolves” was set alight by Song Yazhi’s words. Shao Xinghui and Wang Tao both flushed red. The other four young instructors, like Fu Lin, looked at him with sympathetic eyes.
Standing amidst the crowd, Fu Lin looked for all the world like a lamb awaiting slaughter. His face was burning, his heart in a panic. Instinctively, he looked for Su Yunjin among the seated trainees.
“No… no, this isn’t right, you can’t do this. I’m telling you, you’ll regret it,” stammered Fu Lin, clutching at the collar of his shirt.
In the crowd, Su Yunjin watched, unable to help but laugh behind her hand. This guy, normally so shameless, was finally getting a taste of his own medicine. For once, he was the one being “hunted.” The sight made her mood soar.
The spectacle of hungry wolves besieging the instructors lasted for nearly half an hour. The trainees refused to give up until Fu Lin and the others took off their shirts to reveal their abs. In the end, Fu Lin and the rest of the instructors managed to escape by banding together and demonstrating a series of hand signals used by special forces on missions, finally appeasing the trainees.
The brief break came to an end, followed by a little more training, and then military drill was over for the day.
“Why didn’t you come to my rescue just now?”
After everyone was dismissed—some heading off to eat, others to practice—Su Yunjin was about to return to her dorm for a short rest, when Fu Lin stepped in to block her path.
At over six feet tall, he stood before her, casting a shadow that nearly enveloped her whole. The sun was at his back, the camouflage uniform rimmed with gold.
With his upright figure, righteous aura, and sun-bronzed skin, he exuded a sense of security. Yet, on that secure, masculine face was an expression of pure grievance—the thick brows drawn down in a pitiful arch, like a puppy that had just been abandoned.
“I wanted to help, but then I thought, showing off your abs isn’t so bad. I wanted to see, too,” Su Yunjin replied.
After spending this much time together, Su Yunjin no longer felt as distant from Fu Lin as before. What happened at the central lake had also made her more at ease with Fu Lin, Shao Xinghui, and Wang Tao. Seeing this thick-skinned man looking so aggrieved, she couldn’t help wanting to tease him a little. From now on, this would be her secret weapon against him.
“You wanted to see, too?”
Fu Lin’s drooping brows shot up in surprise. Su Yunjin, not noticing the shift in his demeanor, kept up the playful act. She took a step back, raised an eyebrow, and put on a lascivious look. “Of course! Let me tell you, I’m no innocent little lamb—when it comes to handsome men, I have zero resistance.”
She couldn’t help but laugh at her own words.
But in the next second, before Su Yunjin could react, Fu Lin seized her hand and, with a few quick strides, led her to a secluded spot.
Without warning, she felt the unique warmth of a man’s hand enveloping hers. She froze, instinctively looking down—only to find her hand pressed against his abdomen!
Through the army-green camouflage, Su Yunjin could feel the sharp, chiseled muscles beneath, hard as if carved from stone.
“If you want to see, you can just ask me in private. I… I don’t mind. I’ve got abs, the V-line, even chest muscles. Mm… my physique isn’t half bad.” Fu Lin’s cheeks were tinged with red as he stammered out the words.
Then, holding her wrist, he guided her hand to his chest. “Can you feel it? Not bad, right?”
What?
What?!
Not bad? Not bad?!
What the hell was that supposed to mean? Did he think she was some kind of female pervert?
Even though Su Yunjin had trained in Daoist cultivation since childhood and usually had a calm and steady mind, at this moment, she couldn’t take it. What did he mean, she could just ask to see? What did he mean, his figure was “not bad”?
Was that what she meant? She had just wanted to tease him!
This damn guy—dragging her into the woods to let her grope his muscles—what the hell was going on?!
She’d gone completely mad!
Su Yunjin’s mind went blank, her heart pounding wildly, blood rushing to her head. Gritting her teeth, she hissed, “Let go! Or I’ll show you what I mean!”
