With a pout, Lin Xiaxin complained, “Sister, that’s so unfair! You’re ganging up on me just because you have so many guy friends and I don’t even have one. How can you bully someone who doesn’t have a single male friend?”

Lin Zimo only laughed more brazenly. “That’s my advantage, isn’t it? Everyone’s willing to be my friend. They don’t dislike me just because I’m Japanese. As the saying goes, ‘Within the four seas, all men are brothers.’ Naturally, they become my best friends.”

“So what if you came to China a few years before I did? If Mom and Dad had brought me here first, would you be where you are now, Sister?” Lin Xiaxin asked.

Lin Zimo shrugged with a smile. “My dear Lily, even if you’d come here first, nothing would have changed. I know you too well. You’re not good at socializing and you’ve been shy since you were little. That’s why Mom and Dad brought me to China while you were raised by Grandma, isn’t it?”

Lin Xiaxin’s expression dimmed. “It’s a pity Grandma had already passed away by the time I arrived. If she’d held on until China’s National Day, maybe we could have seen her one last time when we returned.”

Lin Zimo patted her shoulder. “Let’s not dwell on the sadness. We should look ahead and live up to Grandma’s expectations—and Mom and Dad’s as well.”

Lin Xiaxin took out her phone and said, “Sister, listen. Last time I was out shopping, I met a guy—he was the first male friend I made in China.”

“Oh? He added you on WeChat?” Lin Zimo asked.

“No, I added him. He helped me out of a huge mess, or I would have been in big trouble. Look, here’s his profile,” Lin Xiaxin said, handing her phone to Lin Zimo. Lin Zimo glanced at the WeChat avatar and found it oddly familiar. “I feel like I’ve seen this before, but I just can’t remember whose it is.”

Lin Xiaxin quickly snatched her phone back, exclaiming, “Sister, what’s with you? Just because I added a guy on WeChat, you pretend he looks familiar. Don’t you mind if your own phone’s harem has one more guy in it?”

Lin Zimo laughed and scolded, “What harem? Only you would say something like that. Afraid I’ll steal this guy from you, aren’t you?”

Lin Xiaxin smirked, “Then let’s make a bet. If you find this guy from my WeChat, I’ll confess to him right then and there, and Yuxingyue will be yours. If you can’t, then Yuxingyue is mine.”

At that moment, both Xiao and Yu shivered and sneezed, as if someone was wagering their future happiness.

Lin Zimo shook her head. “Isn’t this bet a bit much? You know I’ve never met this guy, but you still put me under so much pressure?”

Lin Xiaxin grinned mischievously. “Prepare to accept your fate, Sister. You should just give up—sooner or later, Yuxingyue will be mine and you’ll live in my shadow.” She suddenly started acting theatrically.

Just then, someone knocked at the door. Lin Zimo went to open it. A courier stood outside and said, “Miss Lin Zimo, here’s your package. Please sign for it.”

Lin Zimo was puzzled. She hadn’t ordered anything, but the package was clearly addressed to her. With no choice, she signed and took the box. Once the courier left, she looked at the package. The sender was unmistakably written: “Yuxingyue.”

Seeing those three characters, Lin Zimo grew excited, afraid she might damage whatever was inside. She carefully opened the box and found a white mug. Her name was written on it, and inside the box was also a letter from Yuxingyue. Setting the mug aside, she eagerly opened the letter.

It read: “I heard from Wang Tianqi and Chen Siyu that your mug recently broke and you’ve been feeling down, so I made you one myself. It’s not that pretty, but you should be receiving it about ten days after I send it. I hope this gift cheers you up. I’m terrible at comforting girls, so I’ll stop here—words fail me.” It was signed, Yuxingyue.

Lin Xiaxin suddenly burst out, seeing Lin Zimo holding the mug. She practically jumped with excitement. “No way! Yuxingyue sent you a gift? Is this some kind of public confession?”

“Lily, don’t be ridiculous. Hugo and I are just friends, don’t overthink it,” Lin Zimo tried to defend herself.

Lin Xiaxin calmed herself and said, “Sister, you don’t know what giving a mug means. In Chinese, a mug—a ‘bei zi’—sounds like ‘a lifetime.’ He’s wishing you a lifetime together. And he spent all that time making the lip of the mug into a heart shape. This is his carefully prepared gift for you on May 20th.”

“That fool… this gift…” Lin Zimo didn’t know what to say. She hadn’t done anything, but Yuxingyue was so thoughtful. As a friend, Yuxingyue had always been close to her. To thank her, he’d painstakingly made this mug, and though it was difficult to get the heart shape right, he’d managed it with persistence.

She didn’t know how long she was moved by this joy—so much that Lin Zimo herself could not put it into words.

Zhang Yi hadn’t gone back to the hospital to visit Li Li. He’d gone to practice Sanda, determined to make up for lost time. If he kept slacking off, his flexibility would decline, so now that his arm had recovered, he threw himself into hard training.

Earlier, Wang Tianqi had taken Yu Li out of the hospital to come visit Li Li. On the way, Wang Tianqi typed on his phone, telling Yu Li that this girl knew Zhang Yi and had a strong temper, so Yu Li should be careful. Yu Li nodded, knowing she wasn’t good at talking, but thought keeping silent would only make things worse.

Just as they reached the hospital entrance, a man in black bumped into her and quickly walked away. Wang Tianqi frowned at the man’s rudeness—he didn’t even apologize. Yu Li watched the departing figure with suspicion, but once Wang Tianqi checked them into the hospital, the incident slipped from her mind, though she couldn’t shake her curiosity about the man in black.

When they entered the ward, Wang Tianqi was surprised to find Li Li gone. A thought flashed through her mind—had Li Li escaped? Seeing a nurse entering, she hurried over and asked, “Excuse me, do you know where the patient here went?”

The nurse looked at the empty bed and replied, “She just left the hospital—about three minutes ago.”

“Thank you,” Wang Tianqi said. Then she remembered the man in black who’d bumped into them. Could that have been Li Li, dressed up with a black coat and hat to avoid being recognized? The build matched, but Wang Tianqi hadn’t noticed at the time.

Yu Li thought the same. The person they’d come to see had already left, walking right out the hospital’s main entrance without being recognized. If only she could speak, she’d have warned Wang Tianqi to pay attention to the man in black.

“She can’t have gone far. If we hurry, we might catch up,” Wang Tianqi said, grabbing Yu Li’s hand and running out of the hospital to chase after Li Li, though by then she had no idea which direction Li Li had gone. With no better option, Wang Tianqi decided to bet on Li Li heading to Zhang Yi’s home and led Yu Li that way.

At that moment, Zhang Yi was practicing Sanda on the rooftop of his house. He’d been at it for over an hour. Though he was sweating, he didn’t seem tired at all, and the muscles in his arms were strikingly defined.
