Chapter Thirty-Nine: The Mysterious Teacher
Du Gu Ming turned his head and saw a refined-looking man standing there, dressed in a Zhongshan suit, wearing glasses, and holding a book in his hand—clearly the image of a scholar. He seemed to be a teacher.
Inwardly, Du Gu Ming muttered, I don't care if you're a teacher or not. Even if the King of Heaven himself comes today, I’ll kill this bastard. I said it before: whoever dares lay a hand on my woman, they will die.
With that, he clenched his fist and swung it again at Xi Men Xiao Kun.
The teacher sighed, shook his head as if in resignation, and muttered softly, “Why are young people these days so impulsive?” Then he shouted at Du Gu Ming, “Assistant!”
The voice thundered with righteous force, deafeningly loud, almost tangible, sending out a destructive wave that flew straight at Du Gu Ming.
Sensing the danger approaching, Du Gu Ming turned and punched the wave head-on, forced back several steps by its force.
“Sound manifestation?” Du Gu Ming exclaimed in disbelief. How could this be? Only someone at level six could possess such power. Was this seemingly frail scholar actually a level six master? Du Gu Ming found it hard to believe.
Lin Xiaowen hurried over and grabbed Du Gu Ming’s arm. “Darling, are you all right?”
Du Gu Ming shook out his arm. “It’s nothing serious. He didn’t intend to kill me.”
Though Du Gu Ming was already a level four, a gap of two levels was daunting. If this man truly meant to kill him, he wouldn’t have even had the chance to run.
“You’re so unreasonable! You didn’t even bother to get the facts straight!” Lin Xiaowen was truly incensed, and now, like an irate shrew, she yelled at the teacher, all traces of her refined demeanor gone.
Xi Men Xiao Kun, who’d nearly wet himself moments before, now dashed behind the teacher for safety.
Du Gu Ming realized this was no simple matter and decided to handle it himself. He pulled Lin Xiaowen behind him protectively, then bowed respectfully to the teacher. “Greetings, Elder. I offer my respects, but may I ask why you acted as you did just now? Are you, too, siding with the tiger?”
The teacher smiled. “Young man, you can’t put it that way. It’s good for young people to have spirit, but you mustn’t be rash, understand?” He paused, then continued, “After all, this is a school. Schools are for learning. Whatever you do outside is none of my concern, but within these walls, I expect you to behave yourselves.”
“And you as well,” he said, shooting Xi Men Xiao Kun a fierce glare that nearly sent the latter collapsing to the ground in fright.
Du Gu Ming listened intently, then nodded and bowed again. “Thank you, Elder, for your guidance. May I ask your esteemed name?” Then, glaring at Xi Men Xiao Kun behind the teacher, he growled, “You’re lucky today. You get to keep your life. Next time, you won’t be so fortunate.”
Xi Men Xiao Kun, recalling his brush with death, nearly lost control again.
The teacher sighed softly. “I’m a teacher at Ningxia University. My name is Li Yunren. You may call me Teacher Li.”
Du Gu Ming was surprised to learn that this master was genuinely a teacher at Ningxia University. He hadn’t expected such a formidable hidden figure to be concealed in such an ordinary institution.
Clearly, this university was far from as simple as it appeared. Suddenly, he thought of the old man who’d sent him here—this teacher must know something.
It was as if the teacher read his mind. “I don’t know, and don’t ask. When the time comes, you’ll know what you need to know. That’s enough. You may go.”
“Hm?” Du Gu Ming hesitated, then turned to leave.
Lin Xiaowen quickly ran up and clung to his arm, demure and affectionate.
Wang Hongru and Zhang Liming followed as well, watching the sweet couple ahead, silently trailing behind.
Tentatively, Du Gu Ming asked, “Your sister won’t show up, will she?”
“Don’t worry, silly. You don’t have to worry about her for now; she won’t be coming out any time soon.” Lin Xiaowen smiled foolishly at him, all traces of her former dignified poise gone. Truly, as someone once said, love makes women idiots.
Hearing this, Du Gu Ming finally sighed in relief.
Noticing his fear, Lin Xiaowen teased, “Are you really that afraid of my sister?”
“Of course! Your sister nearly killed me,” Du Gu Ming replied.
Then he asked, “Tell me honestly, are you the eldest daughter of the Xuan Yuan family—Xuan Yuan Lin Wen?”
“I am. Why?” Xuan Yuan Lin Wen replied with a smile.
“I knew it! But why didn’t you say so earlier?” Du Gu Ming looked regretful.
“You never asked,” she replied. Then she added, “Anyway, don’t be upset. I’m not letting go of you now, so there.”
“Come on, you’re the Xuan Yuan family’s eldest daughter. Can you not be so shameless?” Du Gu Ming said helplessly at her words.
“After what happened, don’t you think you ought to take responsibility?” she retorted, a bit miffed.
“How could I not? I’m a responsible man, all right?” Du Gu Ming hurried to assure her.
“Hehe, I knew you wouldn’t abandon me. By the way, darling, how did you know I was surrounded here? You didn’t even come to class this morning,” she asked.
Actually, the day before, Du Gu Ming had bought a new SIM card and linked it to his landline for convenience. Just as his plane was about to take off, he noticed dozens of missed calls from his landline. He knew only Zhang Liming had that number, and Zhang Liming wasn’t the type to call so many times unless something serious happened. So, Du Gu Ming guessed something was wrong—though he didn’t realize the one in trouble was Xuan Yuan Lin Wen, not Zhang Liming.
When he drove to campus, he saw from afar Xuan Yuan Lin Wen surrounded. Thinking quickly, he used the roar of his car to disperse the crowd and broke through the encirclement, rescuing her.
Of course, he couldn’t say that. So, shamelessly, he claimed, “We have a telepathic bond. Our souls are connected, so when you were in danger, I sensed it and came at once.”
Ps: That’s all for today—two chapters. If the power’s back and my IV drip is finished tomorrow, I might manage another. It’s tough, but I hope you’ll add this to your bookshelf after reading. I’d be deeply grateful. Thank you.
