Chapter Thirty-Three: Heading Home?
Du Gu Ming was now certain that Lin Xiao Wen was actually Xuan Yuan Lin Wen. But what should he do next? Go back to school? Impossible. He would see Lin Xiao Wen day in and day out, and if he happened to run into her fierce sister again, wouldn’t his life be at risk?
Run away? But where would he go? The old man hadn’t yet told him why he wanted him to attend Ningxia University. If he just left without any explanation, not only would the old man never let him off, but Du Gu Ming himself would never be satisfied.
Du Gu Ming pondered endlessly, while on the other side, Lin Xiao Wen had already left the shopping mall. As for the items that Lin Xiao Wen’s sister and Du Gu Ming damaged, the owners didn’t ask them to pay for it.
He remembered the person in charge coming in and seeing the movie room reduced to utter chaos. Their face was frozen in shock. Thankfully, Zhang Li Ming had assured them that he would take responsibility for anything that happened; otherwise, the staff member really might have broken down in tears.
Lin Xiao Wen didn’t return to school, but instead went back to her own mansion.
“Sister, don’t interfere with this matter. Give me control of the body, I want to explain to Brother Du Gu myself,” Lin Xiao Wen said.
“Hmph.” Another voice coldly snorted from within Lin Xiao Wen.
“It’s all your fault. Now Brother Du Gu must hate me, doesn’t like me anymore. How am I supposed to explain myself?” Lin Xiao Wen said with a troubled expression.
“Hmph.” The girl continued to snort coldly.
“Let’s see how long you can endure. When Brother Du Gu only likes me and not you, you’ll have to cry.” Lin Xiao Wen said, unhappy, because her sister always disparaged her Brother Du Gu.
“Hmph.” The voice snorted again, but noticeably weaker than before. If Lin Xiao Wen’s sister had a physical body now, anyone could see a hint of panic flashing through her eyes at those words.
“Wen Wen, you’re back.” A mass of black mist formed beside Lin Xiao Wen, and an elderly man in black clothes, hunched over, appeared at her side and spoke.
“Yes, Grandpa, I’m back,” Lin Xiao Wen replied.
“So, how are you adjusting to school life? I saw your dorm—it’s so small! If you’re not used to it, Grandpa will arrange for a grand villa to be built for you right on campus.” The old man spoke dotingly.
“No need, Grandpa. Besides, we’re here this time to find something. If we did that, it would be too conspicuous and not good,” Lin Xiao Wen said.
“True, true. But we’ve been at Ningxia University for some time now, and still haven’t found even a trace of that thing. Could it have been a trick?” Grandpa Black said.
“It can’t be. Since that strange bird told me to come to Ningxia University at eighteen, it must be right. Don’t forget what it gave our Xuan Yuan family, and it’s so powerful, not even Father could withstand a single move from it. There’s no reason for it to deceive us,” Lin Xiao Wen said, furrowing her brows.
“You’re right. We’ll just have to keep searching. Has anyone bullied you at school?” Grandpa Black asked.
“That’s impossible,” Lin Xiao Wen said, swinging her little fist.
“Of course, with your freakish sister around, I doubt anyone would dare hurt you.” Wait, Grandpa Black actually knew about Lin Xiao Wen’s sister?
“Don’t mention that sister. Wen Wen hates her now!” Lin Xiao Wen said, furious.
“Why? Weren’t you two getting along well?” Grandpa Black asked in confusion.
“It’s because she hurt Du—” Lin Xiao Wen quickly covered her mouth with her hand, startled, almost letting slip something she shouldn’t.
“Du what?” Grandpa was completely lost.
“It’s nothing, really. I just need a rest. I have school tomorrow.” With that, she playfully shoved Grandpa Black out of the bedroom.
As she closed the door, Lin Xiao Wen patted her chest in relief, glad she hadn’t given anything away.
As Grandpa Black left, he happened to glance back at Lin Xiao Wen’s gait, and his brows furrowed. Something occurred to him, and his expression shifted several times.
Meanwhile, Du Gu Ming was still pondering what to do, when suddenly a phone rang.
Du Gu Ming looked around for a while. He hadn’t brought anything with him from the shopping mall—not even his iPhone 6, which was probably now a wreck. So where was the ringing coming from?
He followed the sound and realized it was the landline in the villa. He suddenly remembered the villa had a landline.
“Hello?” He picked up the phone.
“It’s me, big brother, Zhang Li Ming.”
“It’s you? How did you know this number?” Du Gu Ming asked.
“You forgot? When you enrolled at school, you filled in a home phone number—this one. I couldn’t reach you on your mobile, so I tried this, and sure enough, you were home.” Zhang Li Ming replied from the other end.
“What do you want?” Du Gu Ming was in no mood for idle chatter.
“Did you have fun last night, big brother? I heard from the folks downstairs that you trashed the room? Never thought you were one of us, enjoying wild fun too. Tell me, how did you do it? Teach your little brother,” Zhang Li Ming said, sounding lewd.
“Fun, my foot! I knew that was your doing yesterday. Oh, my god. I shouldn’t have trusted you. I got totally screwed over by you again, and this time it’s even worse.” Du Gu Ming no longer cared to blame Zhang Li Ming, since what was done was done. Of course, if Zhang Li Ming were right in front of him, he’d gladly wring his neck.
Du Gu Ming slammed the phone down. He was in a terrible mood. Forget it, it seemed the only option was to run. After all, his life was more important. Yes, tomorrow he’d fly back to America.
Elsewhere, Lin Xiao Wen had already gone to bed. With her eyes closed, she whispered a wish to see Brother Du Gu tomorrow and explain everything to him.
And in another villa, a butler stood respectfully beside a young man.
“Young master Xi Men, everything you requested has been arranged. Tomorrow is Monday, and you can start school,” the butler said, bowing low.
“Hmph, it took you several days to get this done. Useless dogs. So, any news about Miss Xuan Yuan?” Xi Men Xiao Kun said angrily.
“Please forgive me, young master. I don’t know why, but Ningxia University dared to defy our Xi Men family. I barely managed to secure the spot,” the butler said, fearful.
“What? A lousy little university dares to disrespect our Xi Men family? Hmph, once I’ve dealt with Miss Xuan Yuan, I’ll destroy Ningxia University,” Xi Men Xiao Kun said viciously.
