Chapter 101: This Is True
After saying that, Lu Ming hung up immediately. Captain Zhang chuckled and said, "Brother, you’ve got style."
“Heh, my friend here is a bit foolish but generous with money. Don’t worry, he’ll send the money over shortly,” Lu Ming replied with a smile.
“All right, then we’ll wait,” Captain Zhang said confidently and calmly.
Meanwhile, inside the grocery store, Yun Ketian finished his call, looking utterly bewildered.
After a long moment, he finally reacted and said to Qin Lan beside him, “Sister Qin, something’s happened to Brother Lu. I have to go out for a bit.”
Qin Lan sat up abruptly. “What’s going on?”
“It seems he was caught for drunk driving. I’m going to check it out,” Yun Ketian explained.
Qin Lan, feeling lazy again, flopped back onto the sofa. “It’s nothing serious. Just go quickly. You bothering me just makes me upset.”
Yun Ketian shook his head helplessly and headed out. After walking a short distance, he suddenly turned back and asked, “Brother Lu was set up. Do you want to come and see for yourself?”
Qin Lan immediately perked up. “We definitely have to go see.”
It was rare for Lu Ming to be caught in such a mess, and they didn’t want to miss the excitement.
The two left and drove toward Qujiang Road.
While driving, Yun Ketian called Director Liu Mingtian of the Traffic Department and repeated Lu Ming’s exact words.
To an insider, it was obvious what was going on. Nowadays, on-the-spot punishments were no longer allowed; instead, a fine would be issued, and the offender would pay at a designated bank.
Moreover, fines were never that steep. As soon as Liu Mingtian heard this, he knew the situation and was furious.
A serious incident happened under his jurisdiction, and it involved the son of the top provincial official, who had reported it to him. To make matters worse, this person was a friend of Young Master Yun.
If this reached Yun Shengguo’s ears, how would he view Liu’s competence? How could he trust someone whose subordinates did such things?
Liu Mingtian immediately ordered his staff to prepare vehicles and notified the Inspection Team captain to bring people over.
Shortly after, the team assembled, and Liu Mingtian personally led them, speeding toward Qujiang Road.
Originally, this matter wouldn’t have troubled the head of the Traffic Department; a staff member from the city bureau would have sufficed.
But those people were too low-ranking, and Yun Ketian had almost no contact with them, so he had no choice but to alert Liu Mingtian.
After the call, the two drove swiftly to Qujiang Road, where they saw Lu Ming’s beat-up car and a police vehicle parked at the intersection, with a traffic officer guarding Lu Ming’s car.
Yun Ketian stopped and approached Lu Ming’s car, noticing that Lu Ming was not inside—only two beautiful girls were there. He was momentarily stunned.
The traffic officer nearby asked, “Where’s he?”
Pointing to the police car behind them, the officer said, “He’s inside. Go on over.”
Yun Ketian walked to the police car, glanced through the window, and saw Lu Ming sitting in the back seat alongside a young traffic officer, while an older officer sat in the front driver’s seat. All three were watching him.
Waving to Lu Ming, Yun Ketian greeted, “Brother Lu, I’m here.”
“Did you bring the money?” Lu Ming asked calmly.
Yun Ketian smiled. “Not enough yet. I’ve notified others; they’re on their way.”
Lu Ming nodded, understanding the situation, and fell silent.
At that moment, Qin Lan ran over, leaning against the window and watching Lu Ming as if he were under strict supervision, making a face.
“Oh my, what happened? Got caught drunk driving, or caught drunk driving while hitting on girls? How careless can you be? That girl was a total failure to charm,” Qin Lan chattered, shaking her head in mock sympathy.
Lu Ming’s face darkened. He turned away, not wanting to engage with her.
But Qin Lan wouldn’t stop, continuing, “You’re driving such an old clunker and yet managed to pick up two beautiful girls. Your ancestors must be proud. Too bad you got caught; now you’re not just failing at wooing but embarrassing yourself. I really feel for you.”
She sighed dramatically, shaking her head.
Watching Qin Lan go on and on, Lu Ming finally snapped. “Enough, woman.”
Qin Lan laughed. “What are you going to do—hit them? Yelling at me is easy, though.”
“You—” Lu Ming was so annoyed he nearly spat blood.
At that moment, Yu Bai and Sheng Siyu, feeling something was off, wondered why a simple drunk driving check was taking so long. Even if Lu Ming was drunk driving, there should be a standard procedure. Why was there still no progress?
Worried, they opened their car doors, intending to ask about the situation.
But as soon as they opened their doors, a traffic officer said, “Stay in the car. Don’t get out.”
“Why can’t we get out? We didn’t break any laws,” Yu Bai protested.
“Just stay put. Your involvement is still under investigation,” the officer replied.
“But we’re not the drivers. Why are you interfering with us?” Yu Bai argued back.
A dispute broke out between them and the officer.
Lu Ming and the others watched the argument unfold.
Lu Ming then said sternly, “Officer Zhang, whatever tricks you’re playing, I’m with you on that. But leave those two girls out of it. Don’t make things hard for them, or you’ll regret it.”
“Oh? Now you’re lecturing me? Don’t think just because you have two people here you’re tough. You were severely drunk driving and also suspected of prostitution. That’s a serious matter,” Captain Zhang said gravely.
“Prostitution?” Hearing this accusation, Qin Lan burst into laughter until tears nearly streamed down her face.
Pointing at Lu Ming, she exclaimed, “Prostitution? Hahaha!”
“You crazy woman, that’s enough! Watch yourself or I won’t hold back,” Lu Ming growled fiercely.
Before Qin Lan could reply, Captain Zhang, with a serious expression, said, “Young man, your mindset is dangerous. How can you hit a woman?”
Qin Lan covered her mouth, stifling her laughter, then said to Captain Zhang, “You don’t know, last time this guy beat me so badly I was bedridden for days.”
“Really? Young man, you have many problems,” Captain Zhang said sternly, staring at Lu Ming.
Lu Ming’s face darkened as if scorched.
Before he could respond, Yun Ketian lost his patience and shouted at Captain Zhang, “Are you playing the big wolf here? Don’t test my temper. Let Brother Lu go and confess your own mistakes, or I’ll make you regret it.”
Captain Zhang’s face turned red with anger. He stepped out of the car, pointed at Yun Ketian, and said, “Who do you think you are, talking to me like that? Keep this up, and I’ll charge you with obstructing official duties and detain you.”
“Detain me?” Yun Ketian sneered coldly. “In the Northwest, no one dares talk to me like that. You’ll pay for those words.”
“Pay? How dare you threaten an officer? You want to go to jail?” Captain Zhang shouted furiously.
Qin Lan watched Yun Ketian’s sudden fury, a faint smile playing at her lips as she observed from the side.
Yun Ketian glared at the man named Zhang, his anger boiling over.
He didn’t know where the fury came from, only that after Qin Lan’s words, he couldn’t help but flare up.
“If you’ve got the guts, I’d respect you,” Yun Ketian said coldly, restraining his rage.
He was determined to make this bastard pay.
“Heh, you really think I’m a pushover? Xiao Li, handcuff him,” Captain Zhang barked angrily.
At that moment, the police officer inside the car got out, pulled handcuffs from his waist, and cuffed Yun Ketian to the car door.
Yun Ketian didn’t resist, allowing himself to be handcuffed, a cold smile curling at his lips.
Seeing Yun Ketian cuffed, Qin Lan frowned and said to Captain Zhang, “Aren’t you overplaying this?”
Captain Zhang replied sternly, “He obstructed official duties and threatened an officer. This must be handled seriously.”
Then, from his waist, he pulled out another pair of handcuffs and restrained Lu Ming to the car’s armrest.
Lu Ming didn’t resist either, his smile fading as he let the man named Zhang cuff him.
Captain Zhang then approached Qin Lan.
“Don’t be afraid. This has nothing to do with you. And about him hitting you—if that’s true, Captain Zhang will help you. People like him deserve severe punishment.”
Qin Lan glanced at Lu Ming, thought for a moment, and said, “That did happen.”
