Chapter 49: The Truth Pill
Xuanyuan Hongyu pointed toward the empty hall. “Don’t you think we should be doing something more important?”
Ling Wei stubbornly demanded to know the answer. “Don’t try to change the subject. Hmph, I know—you must be fake, or else why wouldn’t you admit it?”
The little one wanted to stand with hands on hips and boldly press the young man to reveal whether he was truly a deity. But things didn’t go as she wished. The small girl was suddenly swept into his tight embrace, unable to see the expression on his face as he spoke.
“All right, stop messing around. The important business comes first. Don’t you want to personally teach those fat pigs a lesson? Don’t you think they’ve gone too far? Hmm?” Xuanyuan Hongyu shifted the topic again, pressing down the restless little creature in his arms as he headed straight toward the general’s mansion’s backyard.
The backyard was Zhao Meng’s territory. Because of his personal tastes, it wasn’t just a place for healing but also held treasures for teaching others a lesson. When the two arrived, the courtyard gates were wide open, and the prefect of Jingzhao along with his attendants knelt in orderly rows facing the entrance.
The people of the general’s mansion obediently stepped aside, their eyes blazing with fervor, gazing at Xuanyuan Hongyu with reverence. Ling Wei was bewildered—again with this? It’s just a foul old sack of bones! Why do they all look at him as if he were a god?
Xuanyuan Hongyu walked to the main seat and sat down. Zhao Meng stepped forward. “Great Lord of Heaven, a humble man has crafted a pill of truth. Could you kindly take a look?” The usually manly Zhao Meng blushed as he spoke. Ling Wei felt nauseated. Good heavens, Uncle Zhao, where did your dignity go? Was it really necessary to be like this?
Xuanyuan Hongyu nodded slightly, exuding the full air of a divine being. With his long index finger and thumb, he pinched the pill. “This pill… hmm, it’s quite interesting. Enough to teach a lesson to the ungrateful.”
Zhao Meng’s face turned even redder—not from embarrassment but excitement. The burly man couldn’t help but run in circles in the courtyard. If it weren’t for the presence of the Great Lord of Heaven, he might have been moved to tears. After tiring himself out, Zhao Meng sheepishly looked up at Xuanyuan Hongyu, scratched his head, and then shouted to the gagged crowd, “This pill is approved even by the Lord of Heaven. You’re lucky. Come on, brothers, help them take it.”
The people of the general’s mansion could no longer contain themselves. One by one, they rushed forward. “Uncle, give me one!”
“Zhao, don’t forget me!”
“Zhao Meng kid, give me one too!”
…
The general’s mansion instantly turned into a bustling marketplace, everyone scrambling for the pills. These were divine pills recognized by the Lord of Heaven himself. Even if we can’t make them, at least we want to hold and feel them.
The prefect of Jingzhao and his men were terrified beyond measure. Seeing the situation, the prefect wished he could faint; dying unconscious would be more comfortable than dying awake. But the fat man’s wish was impossible. If he fainted, how could Zhao Meng continue the interrogation?
Seeing everyone so fervently fighting over the pills, Ling Wei also clamored to go down and get a pill from Uncle Zhao.
No sooner had she spoken than she received the young man’s disdainful look. “You want to snatch a pill like that?” He looked at her tiny arms and legs with utter contempt, then wickedly grabbed her slender little feet. “If you want to go, then go. I won’t stop you.”
Ling Wei, furious, opened her small mouth wide and bit down hard on Xuanyuan Hongyu’s chin, pulling at the tender flesh on his face with both hands. What does ‘not stopping her’ mean? His hands are always picking on her!
Xuanyuan Hongyu’s chest trembled. “Little fool, I already have a pill. You don’t need to scramble for it. Just call me once, and if I’m satisfied, I’ll give it to you.”
Ling Wei ignored him, still angrily gnawing his chin and clutching the soft flesh firmly. Don’t think she’s so young that she can be bullied!
