Chapter Seventy-Nine: The Demise of Scarface and His Gang

Wasteland Hunting Grounds The ever-shaking Doudou. 2560 words 2026-04-13 17:37:20

On the cold and silent mining grounds, the sound of someone desperately relieving themselves echoed from the shadows, creating a scene so jarringly out of place it made one’s lips twitch in disbelief.

Ye Chen pressed his forehead, utterly speechless.

The driver had already aimed his gun toward the thicket. With a sharp click, the safety was released, his finger tightening on the trigger.

If he fired, Xu Fan would no doubt be blown apart.

Behind the bushes, Xu Fan was petrified, frantically trying to control the noises he was making. But his relaxed sphincter simply refused to obey.

Sensing things were about to go awry, Ye Chen sprang up from the pile of waste rocks. He conjured a diamond-shaped dart, nearly transparent and hidden in his palm—a true concealed weapon, invisible to the casual eye.

Ye Chen shouted loudly, “Put the gun down, it’s me!”

Everyone immediately shifted their gaze, staring at the figure emerging slowly from the shadows.

Once they recognized him, Piglet sneered and shouted, “Ha! It’s you again. I wondered who it was. Looks like you’re backup from Group Two.

“You lot just can’t leave me alone, can you?!

“Fine, fine—now that you’ve seen my secret, you’ll stay here as well.

“You’ll be buried along with the other three soon enough.”

Hearing those words, Ye Chen’s body visibly stiffened, his gaze icy enough to frost over.

“Move!” he ordered.

Piglet retreated a few steps, hiding behind the vehicle.

Ratty and the Fool each drew a boning knife from their waist, while Scar began unwrapping the bandages on his hands. The stench in the air grew heavier, more pungent.

The three closed in on Ye Chen.

“Brat, you’re in our hands today. Old scores and new, we’ll settle them all. Let’s see how I finish you off!” Scar spat venomously.

With the patrolling guards nearby, Scar—once defeated—now acted with impunity. Moreover, today their squad included an element-wielder, bolstering his confidence.

But it was the driver who struck first.

After a brief aim, he fired. A fiery red energy bullet shot toward Ye Chen.

Without hesitation, Ye Chen dove sideways; the bullet narrowly missed him and exploded in the waste stone pile behind.

The blast sent stones flying, some singed and blackened by scorch marks.

Fire-element energy bullets—high temperature, high explosive—the most commonly issued ammunition by the authorities.

Ye Chen rolled to his feet and, with a swift flick, hurled his dart at the driver’s face.

He had to take down the ranged attacker first; otherwise, he’d be harassed and unable to fight freely.

But Ye Chen overestimated his aim. The dart grazed the driver’s helmet and vanished into the distance.

The others were puzzled by Ye Chen’s seemingly pointless move.

A moment later, with a faint crack, a fragment chipped off the helmet and fell to the ground.

The helmet had been cleanly sliced, leaving a bloody mark on the driver’s cheek.

Had the angle been just a bit different, the strike would have been lethal.

Such a shame—so close!

“Careful, he’s got invisible weapons—sharp ones!” the driver shouted.

Meanwhile, Scar and his two companions had completed their encirclement. Seeing this, Ye Chen was secretly pleased.

Instead of retreating, he pressed in close, intending to use their bodies to block the driver’s line of fire.

With his enhanced strength, Ye Chen had never feared close combat.

Not just against ordinary people—even when facing a ranged opponent like the Cloaked Man, he would choose to close in and neutralize them.

Ratty gripped his boning knife, lunging straight for Ye Chen’s abdomen—a typical street stabbing technique.

For such a mundane attack, Ye Chen didn’t even bother activating his insight.

He seized Ratty’s wrist, stepped forward, twisted his waist, and slammed his iron shoulder into Ratty’s scrawny chest.

A dull thud, and Ratty was sent flying as if hit by a moving vehicle.

Broken ribs pierced his lungs.

He passed out mid-air, eyes rolling back, while Ye Chen smoothly took the boning knife from his limp grasp.

“That’s not how you use a knife. Today, let me teach you all a lesson!”

As the Fool charged at him with a knife, Ye Chen smirked, lifted his arm to block, knocking aside the Fool’s weapon, and stepped back just enough to create space.

Then, raising the knife over his head, he swung down in a savage diagonal chop.

As the blade neared its target, his wrist flipped, seamlessly executing an upward diagonal slash.

A beautiful V-shaped strike!

After completing this sequence, Ye Chen paid no mind to the Fool, who stood frozen and wide-eyed, and turned toward Scar.

The Fool stared in disbelief, slowly lowering his gaze to his wound. His trembling hand barely reached for it before, with a sickening splatter, hot blood gushed onto the cold ground.

His pupils went slack, knees buckled, and he collapsed with a heavy thud.

Scar watched as his men dropped in an instant, furious beyond measure.

“Brat, die!”

Scar’s fist, laced with force and a foul stench, was about to smash into Ye Chen’s face.

With a muffled slap, Ye Chen’s hand caught Scar’s wrist and locked it tight.

Against someone like Scar, whose attacks were so singular, as long as you avoided his hands, every other part of his body was a vulnerability.

Scar felt his attack dissolve in Ye Chen’s iron grasp, not even causing the slightest tremor.

Surprise flashed across his face just as a gleam of steel flashed before his eyes. A powerful blow struck his abdomen, sending him airborne.

In Scar’s vision, Ye Chen stood proud and unmoving—holding Scar’s own arm in his grasp.

“Ah! My arm—it’s been cut off again!” Scar screamed from the ground, his cry echoing with agony.

Ye Chen spat, “You’re worse than desert rats—worthless scum!”

He felt no interest in dealing with such brainless opponents. Their straightforward attacks were little more than offering themselves up.

Disabling one arm, not killing him outright, was intentional—he needed more witnesses to cement Piglet’s crimes.

Tonight, Ye Chen fought ruthlessly; nearly every strike drew blood.

His teammates might be in grave danger, and these men were the culprits.

Just as Ye Chen prepared to target his next foe, he noticed the driver in the distance had once again raised his gun, aiming at him.

With Scar and the others down, the shooting lane was clear.

...Not good—he had to dodge, and fast.
