Chapter Eighty-Two: The Soul-Burning Fire Array!
“Burning Spirit Fire Array, arise!”
As Leng Yuetian’s chilling command echoed, Yang Yan, Liu Zhengqing, and the others were startled, a foreboding sense taking root in their hearts.
“Retreat, quickly!”
Yang Yan shouted urgently toward those behind him. But by the time they realized what was happening, it was already too late.
Leng Yuetian wore a cold smile, his hand seals shifting rapidly. The ground within several dozen yards around Yang Yan and his four companions began to tremble.
With a sharp hiss, four connected crimson screens of light suddenly rose around them, sealing off their entire area. At the far end of these screens, a small crimson cauldron spun ceaselessly upside down.
A dull thud rang out—Yang Yan’s fist struck the light screen. Even with his full force, channeling his spiritual energy, it had no effect. Instead, the screen’s backlash sent him staggering several steps before he could steady himself.
“Don’t bother with futile resistance. Next, you may savor the agony of flames consuming your flesh. Hahaha!”
Leng Yuetian’s malicious laughter rang out. Within him, powerful jade-wood spiritual energy surged forth, flowing into his right palm, which he pressed against Xu Shaoguang’s back. Rich wood-aligned energy poured endlessly into Xu Shaoguang’s body.
“Yang Yan, I want to see now—how you plan to kill me! Hahaha…”
Xu Shaoguang’s face twisted with malice as he glared at Yang Yan, then burst into wild laughter. Simultaneously, he jabbed his right finger toward the spinning crimson cauldron above. A thread of fiery spiritual energy extended from his fingertip into the cauldron.
“Be careful!”
Yang Yan warned sternly; he was not naïve enough to believe Xu Shaoguang and Leng Yuetian merely wanted to trap them.
Behind him, Liu Zhengqing, Sun Zhixin, and the others nodded, mobilizing all their spiritual energy to form protective barriers around themselves.
With a muffled roar, the moment Xu Shaoguang’s fire-aligned energy entered the cauldron, a torrent of crimson flames burst forth like a fire dragon, surging toward Yang Yan and his companions, roaring and clawing.
As the searing flames swept through, the trees beneath the crimson screens were instantly ignited.
“This… is a spirit array artifact?!”
The group quickly retreated, dodging the initial wave of flames. Liu Zhengqing’s expression was one of shock as he exclaimed.
“You have some insight. This is indeed an advanced spiritual artifact—the Scarlet Refining Cauldron—capable of manifesting the ‘Burning Spirit Fire Array.’ To die beneath such a treasure, you should have no regrets.”
Leng Yuetian sneered at the five trapped inside the screen.
“Yang Yan, you wanted to kill me, didn’t you? But who would have thought—it’s you who’ll descend to hell first! Hahaha…”
Xu Shaoguang’s face brimmed with smugness. He cast a venomous glare at Yang Yan and laughed boisterously.
“Despicable scoundrel!”
But this time, it was not Yang Yan who spoke, but Sun Zhixin, who had remained silent until now.
“Useless woman! Your Sun family is already allied with mine, yet the moment we entered the Hundred Hunters’ Arena, you threw away our signal token and left me to fend for myself. Now, you’ve even sided with Yang Yan. Since you show no loyalty, don’t blame me for being ruthless!”
Xu Shaoguang’s face was contorted with fury as he shouted.
“Don’t worry, none of them will escape. The Burning Spirit Fire Array isolates the space; even if they shatter their identity plates, it’s useless. But afterward…”
Leng Yuetian paused, his tone meaningful.
Xu Shaoguang’s anger melted instantly into obsequiousness. He smiled, “Young Master Leng, rest assured: my father’s promises will be fulfilled once Yang Yan is reduced to ashes!”
“Very well, then let’s hurry, lest dreams drag on too long.”
Leng Yuetian nodded in satisfaction, then his gaze chilled as he looked at Yang Yan and the others, speaking coldly.
Meanwhile, the jade light on Leng Yuetian’s palm grew more intense, continuously flowing into Xu Shaoguang.
Xu Shaoguang nodded, sending streams of fiery spiritual energy into the Scarlet Refining Cauldron hovering above Yang Yan and his companions.
Each wave of spiritual energy sent crimson flames erupting from the cauldron, sweeping toward the five.
Under such a wide-ranging attack, Yang Yan and his companions trapped within the crimson screens had no room left to dodge. All they could do was channel their inner spiritual energy, forming protective layers to withstand the scorching flames.
“This won’t do. They hold the advantage of the artifact, and with Leng Yuetian’s wood-aligned energy and Xu Shaoguang’s fire, wood fuels fire in the Five Elements—they can fully unleash the artifact’s power. We can’t outlast them!”
Liu Zhengqing’s face was grim.
They were already engulfed in a sea of fire. Crimson flames kept surging from the cauldron, turning the world blood-red. Even the air in the space seemed ablaze, distorting their vision with heat.
“What… is happening?”
Yet in the heart of the inferno, Yang Yan felt nothing out of the ordinary—not even discomfort or heat.
“Could it be…”
He glanced at the faint blue streak mixed within the transparent water-aligned energy covering his skin and suddenly understood.
“You’ve brought me more surprises than I imagined…”
Yang Yan felt a flicker of delight but outwardly acted as pained as the others.
All except Yang Yan wore expressions of agony, struggling to withstand the fiery torment.
Zhang Lin and Zhang Fei, the weakest among them, were bright red, with signs of burns appearing on their hair and faces.
“It’s up to you now!”
With urgency mounting, Yang Yan wasted no time. He gathered the pale blue energy in his qi sea into his hands, then clasped hands with Liu Zhengqing and Sun Zhixin beside him.
Sun Zhixin, desperately resisting the flames, was suddenly grabbed by Yang Yan. She scowled, thinking he was up to his usual mischief. Just as she was about to protest, she felt a cool, soothing energy spread from her palm throughout her body, relieving much of the burning pain at once.
