Chapter 46 Disgusting Heart
"Master." Qiao Yu stood timidly before Wen Jinge. Tonight was the night they had agreed upon.
"You’re here." Wen Jinge glanced at him, then casually tossed him a booklet. "The Buddhist cultivation method I gave you last time—have you read it?"
"Not yet, I haven’t had the chance," Qiao Yu replied honestly, never one for pretense. "Besides, I’ve been asleep most of the time."
"The demonic cultivators have a method for the soul to leave the body. Make use of it, build a good rapport with the demon inside you, and let him teach you."
"But, but demonic cultivation is all about crooked paths and evil ways. We belong to a millennia-old sect..." He glanced at Wen Jinge, who was watching him coldly. "Master, this is a grave taboo."
"Heh." Wen Jinge gave a mocking laugh and beckoned him over. "Come here."
Qiao Yu approached, and his head was tapped three times. "If it were your senior disciple, he’d accept my teachings gladly, regardless of what I taught. Your wings have grown wild, daring to instruct me now!"
"In the past..." He looked at Wen Jinge’s head.
He realized that as long as he didn’t resist Lu Wei, even if he was unconscious, upon awakening he’d have faint impressions of whatever Lu Wei saw.
Neither of them liked his habit of rambling. "In the past, it was my ignorance. If I err in the future, Master, please punish me."
"Did you take some strange medicine?" Wen Jinge probed his forehead.
It wasn’t hot.
Lu Wei would never say such nauseating things.
So the one speaking now could only be Qiao Yu.
"Master, I saw it." Qiao Yu pointed to the sky above. "You’re affected because of it."
Wen Jinge was taken aback, patted the cultivation manual in her arms, and looked at Qiao Yu.
On the Xuanmen continent, a cultivator with high spiritual power could see through the strength of those with lower cultivation in a glance, unless the weaker one carried an artifact that concealed their strength.
Wen Jinge could do this.
But her method was by seeing the aura on people.
Earlier today, Lu Wei had mentioned the concept of the 'Sea of Consciousness'.
So she consulted her confidante, Liang Si, and learned that those with her level of power should see the Sea of Consciousness, not the Sea of Qi.
"Do you see the one in the sky, or the one in my mind?" she asked.
"When the one in the sky appears, my mind lights up."
Wen Jinge crouched down, without a hint of the master’s dignity, covering her face. "Standing from Lu Wei’s perspective, can you see other people’s Sea of Consciousness?"
"Only yours is invisible."
"Do you understand the difference between the Sea of Consciousness and the Sea of Qi?"
"One is above the head, the other surrounds the body."
"Good, understood." Wen Jinge nodded, grabbing Qiao Yu’s hand. "Take a look quickly. We’re going to find your Uncle Shan."
"But it’s so late..."
Shan Hongxing and Wen Jinge never got along. Even before Qiao Yu ascended the mountain to become a disciple, stories circulated among the common folk that described the Xuanmen sect thus.
His Uncle Shan was a righteous paragon, radiant and promising.
And his master was merely a troublemaker, indifferent and provocative.
Her image only gained a sliver of righteousness when paired with Uncle Bai Teng, but even then, it was the bravado of a prodigal returning home, never truly part of the righteous path.
"It’s not a good idea..." Qiao Yu was troubled.
If Lu Wei, the great demon, were in control now, what would he do?
Of course, he would accompany Master regardless.
"Alright... Fine!"
Wen Jinge watched his odd struggle to resolve himself, and was inexplicably amused.
With 'Nonexistent' temporarily out of commission due to the collapse of the main brain, she didn’t have to put on a stern face for her disciple anymore. Living without holding back—what freedom.
"Let’s go!" Wen Jinge patted his shoulder. "Sword flight—keep up with me."
"Okay." Qiao Yu nodded, then immediately regretted it. "Master, I—I can’t fly."
"Oh." Wen Jinge floated back, stood behind him, stretched her legs. "Tell me, if I kick you off now, would you die first, or would Lu Wei take over your body?"
Qiao Yu gritted his teeth, still flying with a clumsy, disordered motion, tracing an 'S' shape across the sky.
"Do you have an enemy sniping at you from behind?"
Now his flight pattern changed from horizontal 'S' to a vertical leaping 'S'.
"You can fly, so why can’t you fly properly?"
Wen Jinge cast a barrier around herself. She remembered her first time venturing out with Qiao Yu—she returned drenched and felt utterly foolish.
Now, after flying often, she was a seasoned driver, understanding the rules of the road and the necessity of a helmet.
"Alright, Master." Qiao Yu flew ahead, but without Wen Jinge guiding him, he had no idea which way to go in the night to reach Wind and Thunder Peak.
He started to panic.
He circled back in a hurry, screaming, "Ma—Master, I can’t stop! Get out of the way!"
Wen Jinge: ...
Wen Jinge was lost in thought, considering whether sword flight was just like riding a motorcycle—not flashy enough. Maybe she should enter an illusion realm to acquire a beautiful demon beast as a mount, which would be like having a limited edition sports car.
But then, her good disciple performed a live attempted murder of his master.
"Hey!" Wen Jinge jumped on Gouchen, raising her sword just in time to avoid a collision with Qiao Yu.
"Master..."
"Useless!" Lu Wei cursed impatiently.
"Oh, you actually showed up?" Wen Jinge rolled her eyes. "Is this how you teach your disciple?"
"It’s his first time, he’s inexperienced." She was never proper when dealing with Lu Wei. "We’re not going to Wind and Thunder Peak—we’re heading to Maple Red Valley. He’s in seclusion."
"What are you planning?" Lu Wei smiled mischievously. "Your disciple’s still awake, you wouldn’t..."
"Exactly." Wen Jinge grinned. "Strike while he’s weak—finish him off."
Lu Wei hadn’t expected her to be so direct, saying such things openly. He hesitated before commenting, "A woman’s heart is truly venomous."
"By the way, when you’re using his body, can you see outside?"
"Yes, always. When he’s asleep, I lose touch with the outside world." He felt some gratitude toward Wen Jinge and kindly warned her, "He can see me talking to you now. If I use his body recklessly, he’ll probably snatch it right back."
"Oh." Wen Jinge nodded thoughtfully.
Lu Wei had a bad feeling and kindly warned, "You’re a black-hearted old demon, but your disciple is a pure white rabbit. Don’t think I’ll help you kill Shan—your disciple would be the first to object."
"He knows why I’ve been hard on him." Wen Jinge’s smile widened.
"And?"
"Maybe he’ll agree! After all, his master prefers obedient disciples like Liang Si and Wang Xiaoxi."
Lu Wei shivered in disgust and retreated, returning control to Qiao Yu. "Back to you!"
"Master, it’s all good." He wore a faint smile, one that resembled Wen Jinge’s.
"Disgusting," Lu Wei muttered.
