Volume One, Chapter 13: She Was Transferred to the Elite Class

“How pitiful,” Fu Chun’er thought.
Fang Juexia was unaware that his image had completely collapsed. After noticing Fu Chun’er cast him several admiring glances, he became wildly excited. As soon as the tutor left, he dashed out and ran straight to the Celestial Class to show off.
He casually peeked through the back door, saw that the tutor of the Celestial Class was also absent, and quickly slipped into the front row, where Yin Lingxiao and Zhang Jichen were seated.
Fang Juexia plopped down next to them, striking a melancholic pose with a sorrowful expression. “So, what do you think? Am I not charming and dashing enough to captivate thousands of girls?”
Yin Lingxiao buried his face in his arms, showing no reaction.
Zhang Jichen, however, chuckled lazily. “Xia Xia, are you alright? The girls are probably about to throw up.”
Fang Juexia slammed his hand on the table, his face full of defiance. “You rich kid don’t get it! The fairy sitting next to me has been eyeing me all morning.”
Yin Lingxiao slowly straightened up from the desk, his cold and sharp face marked by exhaustion, a faint bluish tint under his eyes. He looked at Fang Juexia expressionlessly.
Fang Juexia smiled obediently.
Yin Lingxiao coldly spat one word: “Go.”
……
Pouting, Fang Juexia left. On his way back, he wondered in confusion why Brother Yin looked like he was about to collapse from exhaustion. Did he not sleep well last night? Was it because of some worries?
The noisy voice faded away as Yin Lingxiao once again collapsed onto the desk.
Last night, the moment he closed his eyes, the image of that burly man appeared. Awake and asleep, asleep and awake—he had been running away in his dreams all night, with the man relentlessly chasing him.
In the end, he suddenly rose, using an umbrella as a weapon pressed against the man’s carotid artery, but then caught a faint, pure fragrance like frost and snow. He couldn’t bring himself to strike.
…He truly had lost his mind.
When Fang Juexia returned to the Human Class, Fu Chun’er was busy with a system-assigned task.
It was an extremely difficult “Eight Comparison” question, already beyond the scope of what the tutors had taught. Fu Chun’er had been studying it for a long time without finding a solution.
[Host, if the question is too difficult, you may ask others for help. As long as you fully understand it, the task will still be considered completed.]
Fu Chun’er nodded. She wanted to solve any problem through her own efforts if it was within her knowledge, but this question clearly exceeded the current material. She had to ask the tutor first.
She sensed the system tasks were gradually becoming more challenging, but the rewards hadn’t changed much. Perhaps when the difficulty reached a certain threshold, entirely new rewards would appear. The system only said to keep it a secret.
Unsure if the top student was present today, Fu Chun’er planned to try her luck at Xingyu Hall, where the tutors gathered.

Before leaving, Fu Chun’er glanced at Fang Juexia, who had just returned. Remembering her last misfortune, she cautiously asked, “You just went to the Celestial Class?”
Fang Juexia’s eyes lit up—little Chun’er actually knew he had gone to the Celestial Class?
With such tacit understanding, they wouldn’t need to hide anything when together; their fates were surely aligned!
He beamed. “I went to see Brother Yin and the others, and guess what? Brother Yin was asleep! So exhausted like he hadn’t slept for eight lifetimes. He even told me to scram so I wouldn’t disturb his nap.”
Fu Chun’er smiled with satisfaction. Since Yin Lingxiao was sleeping, it meant she wouldn’t encounter him on the way to Xingyu Hall. The ‘male protagonist rule’ should at least make some logical sense.
Fang Juexia stared blankly at Fu Chun’er’s retreating figure, her final smile echoing in his mind.
Little Chun’er’s smile was truly beautiful…
*
Fu Chun’er entered Xingyu Hall and found that the top student, Tutor Xu, was not there. Opposite, a familiar tutor was reading quietly.
This tutor was surnamed Cao, a scholar who had once given two lectures to the Human Class. Though his learning was not on par with Tutor Xu, it was still commendable. Fu Chun’er approached him.
“What brings you here?” Tutor Cao asked in surprise.
He was a rigid old man, usually favoring outstanding students from humble backgrounds and holding little regard for noble daughters who only came to the academy to dabble in studies and find good matches. Rumors he heard painted Fu Chun’er as no different from such girls.
Fu Chun’er produced her exercise book. “I want to ask you about a question.”
Seeing her earnest desire to learn, Tutor Cao took the book with some reluctance. “Which one?”
Fu Chun’er pointed to the challenging “Eight Comparison” question.
Tutor Cao glanced down, irritation flaring up again.
This set of exercises contained many small questions suitable for Human Class students, but Fu Chun’er asked only the extremely difficult one. Not even some students nearing forty years old could solve it.
He flipped through and noticed the pages before and after were all blank—only this question had any marks. Having spent his life studying without ever passing the imperial exam, he despised those who were arrogant without a solid foundation.
Tutor Cao threw the book back. “You skip all the basics and jump straight to the hardest question? Finish the foundational problems before asking!”
Though Fu Chun’er had done many major questions privately, the small ones were easy for her. She wasn’t refusing; it was just that the system task required her to prioritize solving this “Eight Comparison” question first.
Just as she was about to reply, a voice came from behind: “Tutor, Miss Fu is gifted and dared to ask such a question shortly after her admission. Even I can’t solve it. How shameful.”
Tutor Cao looked up to see Jiang Rongrong, one of the few noble daughters with excellent scholarship. His attitude softened noticeably. “You keep being steady. Don’t be like some who overestimate themselves.”

Jiang Rongrong couldn’t help but sneer, casting a sideways glance at Fu Chun’er. “Tutor’s words are wise. Being steady can’t compare to some who fake diligence and pretend to study~”
Fu Chun’er closed her book, realizing she wouldn’t get any help from Tutor Cao.
She looked around, hoping to find another tutor to consult. Suddenly, voices came from near the door, as if celebrating something. A gentle and refined young man lifted the curtain and entered.
Fu Chun’er saw it was the Tutor Xu she had been seeking and breathed a sigh of relief, walking directly toward him.
Tutor Xu seemed invigorated by good news. Upon seeing Fu Chun’er, he accepted the exercise book kindly.
Glancing at the question, he smiled approvingly. “This question is challenging but just right for you. Come with me to another class. After I assign today’s lessons, I’ll explain it to you.”
Tutor Xu not only lectured the Human Class but also occasionally taught the Earth Class. Since most students in the Celestial Class were advanced scholars, their tutors held a higher rank and were beyond Tutor Xu’s teaching scope.
Fu Chun’er respectfully said, “Thank you, Tutor.”
Since Fu Chun’er solved that arithmetic problem, Tutor Xu had regarded her differently, occasionally giving her special tutoring. He seemed confident she could pass next year’s provincial exam.
After they left, Tutor Cao was stunned. The student he looked down upon was praised by the renowned Tutor Xu. Did that mean he had been blind all along?
Just then, the curtain at the door was lifted again. Several tutors walked in, discussing Tutor Xu with admiration and envy.
Tutor Cao grew increasingly uneasy and asked, “What were you just saying? Has Tutor Xu passed the imperial exam?”
One tutor turned, surprised. “Cao Gong, haven’t you heard the autumn exam results? Yuan Qing not only passed but ranked first, the top scholar. He might be the next to achieve the triple crown after Scholar Yang!”
Tutor Cao stared blankly, of course knowing the results had been announced but had been too dejected after his own failure to pay attention to who topped the list.
Another tutor sighed, “So Tutor Xu has become the main lecturer of the Celestial Class. I wonder if he will resign and focus on preparing for the metropolitan exam.”
Unlike Tutor Cao, Jiang Rongrong didn’t feel humiliated. She firmly believed Fu Chun’er and Tutor Xu shared some secret connection, and that his praise was just a bluff.
However, hearing the tutors’ words, she suddenly realized:
Since Tutor Xu had become the Celestial Class’s main lecturer, didn’t that mean he had just led Fu Chun’er there?
